Anybody doing track days with Sportbiketracktime.  I have a bunch scheduled and was curious who I'd be running into.

I was very much considering it. Still on the fence between them and NESBA

Four are payed and scheduled.

may 30 and 31 at Grattan
august 8 and 9 at Gingerman

Six more are in the works, just nailing down the details.  It'll be 2 days at mid-ohio, 2 days at bluegrass, and 2 at barber.  We're almost got it figured out.

I was actually toying with the idea of autobahn for memorial day weekend.  I've never been there.  Is it any good?

I really don't know if it's any good.  I've never been there before.  I've heard good things about it from the PO of 2 of my bikes but that's about it.

May 30 and 31 any good for you???  I'm sure we can squeeze another bike into the trailer.   Easy for me to say since it's not my trailer.   :)

has this board ever had an "annual GSTwins forum trackday"?  I've seen other boards do mid ohio once a year and things like that.

it would actually be closer for me to just goto GR then to come down and then go with you.  how much does that weekend cost?

$140 for 1 day, $265 for both.  There's a $35 dollar membership fee that's good for the entire year, and you get a free shirt.  Every track has different prices.

I did one track day with this group. Unfortunately the track near my house remodelled and installed a concrete barrier dangerous to bike riders :\ so STT doesn't go there anymore. I'm moving soon and I plan to hit up Jennings GP very often. It's a motorcycle only track so I don't have to wait for STT (or some other organization) to show up.  :thumb: :thumb:

Overall the one track day I did with them was very enjoyable. Their coaches are amazing. Everything was timely. Safety was important, altough they don't require safety wires. My second track day ended because my brake caliper fell off the front fork and I had to pit.  :icon_rolleyes: That wouldn't have happened if I had safety wired my bolts (at the time I didn't even know people did that). They usually provide a free steak lunch hosted by some local restaurant. After each track session there is a 10 minute classroom portion. This continues all day. Also you're put into a group with a personal coach. It's very fun and educational.

Enjoy your track day.  :2guns: :2guns:

The North track is really good for a GS. Fun really. South track sucks IMHO

Black Hawk Farms is really good also for a GS, Putnam is really fun, but Grattan is my favorite.

that's an awesome video!!!

I saw that floating around the net a few months ago.  It said GS500 in the caption so I showed my riding buddy (a ducati snob), the whole time declaring "see GS500s don't suck".   I owe you one because after that he quit trash talking my GS.   :D

Now it turns out it is from a GStwins member.  Small world!  Looks like you know your way around the place.  Any suggestions/tips for my first trip to Grattan next month?

It all depends on which direction they run the track.  It is more difficult to learn clockwise, with the hardest turns to learn being turn 3, the downhill reverse camber left, and then the entrence to the esses, the trick to that one is to not use the brakes as you come over the hill and enter the corner.  The compression at the bottom of the hill on entry to the first right will allow you to flick the bike in hard and scrub off speed to make the corner.  Takes real commitment, but even when learning it, do not use the brakes.  Start with shutting the throttle while going up the hill, and work on shutting it off later and later.

The other hard corner is the uphill blind right turn after the bus stop (turn 9 I think)  You will have to find a reference point on the pavement to use as a turn in point, as you have to have the bike leaned way over, before you can even see the corner.

If you are going counter clockwise, the track is easier to learn and you can even do a power wheelie over the hill after the esses.

Here is a video of the track counter clockwise.  I am following my son on his third track day.http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/pictures?userid=B30242B72F1D4B87A5E245DD6272E638&albumid={3292C0F1-34BD-41B6-A115-AFEF996AD106}

I'm going to have to commit your tips and videos to memory before I go.  Otherwise I'm going to be in trouble.  :D

A 3200 foot straightaway!!!!  I'm geared to do a real (not indicated) 122mph.  I wonder if I can pull it off.

Take your time to learn the track.  There is a lot of run off in most corners but you really want to stay on the sticky part, grass doesn't give much traction.  Also, take advantage of the track coaches, have them lead you around, it will save a lot of time.

My bike pulls 9,500 rpm in 6th going into corner 1.  105-110 mph.

When I finish putting my new motor together (dual plug heads, ported and shaved, 570cc kit, CR carbs, high lift cams) it will be in the 120 range.  Later this year.
