Well,

I'm pissed to say the least! Luck would be nice as I sit in the ED! I'm not quite sure what hit me. All I know is it was about the size of a softball and black. It was flung up from a car @ 45mph on 192. It caught me in the right shoulder. Armor in my jacket took the brunt of the hit ATGATT! But the impact must have shifted my shoulder or something. Because, within a minute my hand was going numb and the back of my shoulder killing me.

Will post more later. It hurts

Ouch! That's not good. You are right about gear though, the more you wear the better. I've had all kinds of stuff hit me while riding, but never anything that big. The pavement around here is pretty terrible and I get little rocks and things hitting my face shield all the time...

that sucks mary,  i hope it's nothing serious.

Hope everything turns out okay. Keep us posted.
You going back to find what it was that hit you?

Ouch, that SUCKS. Totally random, good thing you had a good jacket on. Let us know what's going on inside your shoulder once you know.

My god woman you have some of the worst luck I've ever heard of i hope you're alright let us know how it works out

Well, looks as if the official diagnosis is an AC Joint Sprain. Ugh, back in a sling! He said it is really going to start to hurt over the next day or so. Great! The seven mile ride from hospital to home was torturous to say the least.

Has anyone had this type of injury? I'm trying to think if there was anything I could have done? I know it could have been a lot lot worse. Coulda lost control of the bike or like the doc said: "That jacket may have saved more than your shoulder"

On a side not was talking with one of the RAD techs he was like "you ride" , "yup" , "looks like your jacket really saved you" "uh-huh" " All I ever wear is a t-shirt and shorts" I was like "maybe you should wear gear you never know when something could jump up and nail you" "yeah" he said " I don't like to be restricted and hot" . I replied " what shape would I have been in if I wear what you wear!". It just doesn't matter to some people I guess I mean this guy works in the ED is a bit older than me he has had to of seen what happens to squids?  :cookoo:

Oh well, I hurt!

well at lest you didn't break anything like you clavicle, now that would suck

Toogoofy317

Well, according to my research AC sprain is also known as a seperated shoulder. Thinking that's not a good thing. Of course this happened to right shoulder and I'm severely right handed UGH!

It's too pretty for this krap 82 today!

That sounds like a whole lot of not good. I hope you heal fast!

jetboy287

well as i said in my prior post i hope you feel better soon, side note did the DR proscribe you any  antiinflammatories? i hope he did it will increase blood flow will help it heal faster and swelling will obviously hinder that

Porkchop

Separated shoulder..ouch.  I assume the doc told you not to ride your bike.  How long did the doc tell you to take it easy and stay off your bike?  How long before you ignore his advice?

I hope you get better soon.  I'll be down your way next month.

Sorry to hear that Marry. Do you know how long you'll be down? Props for keeping it on two wheels!

+1 for taking the hit and keeping it upright!!

Hope you feel better soon, crappy time of year to take an injury.  I can't imagine how much it would hurt taking something that size.  I was riding with a friend a cpl weeks ago when one of her rear spools fell off... caught the bolt in the side of the helmet and the spool in the shoulder as bounced off the pavement ... didn't hurt bad but didn't tickle either, can't imagine taking something that size...

Get well soon!

He didn't say in the ED! I was quite suprised he really didn't object to me riding home. But, then again he didn't seem interested in anything. Nurse wanted to get into riding. Said she wanted a Busa as a first bike but was thinking better of that and maybe a six hundred. I told her what I ride and that I was the same way in the beginning wanted a big purty bike. Showed her Flick and she was like "that's a cool little bike". I gave her the name and number of the MSF I went to and we exchanged numbers! She wanted to have some girls to ride with and I thought it would be cool to do it too. Soo, once again just because of the bike I made a friend.

I've never had a real shoulder injury just surgery for AICD and Port in each shoulder/chest area. But, ironically I'm not having a lot of pain where I was hit at. I'm still getting the numbing in my last two fingers and it runs up to the back of my shoulder and THAT is Painful! I cannot lift my arm straight out with excruciating pain all over. Is this par for this type of injury. All I can find on the net is falling out stretched or on the point of the shoulder. It doesn't really talk about my mechanism of Injury. Just trying to get a feel.

Porkchop I'm guessing you were referring to this time last year and my ankle and me getting on the bike WAAAY to early. I couldn't do it right now if I tried! The seven miles to my house from the ED were some of the most excruciating miles that I put on the bike. MUch worse than the ankle!

I'm thinking I need to wear my armor shirt that also has the chest protector LOL and my GxAir could you imagine that style! Probably get the same looks when I hopped in my car to get something out in full-gear!

Had an appointment with my pastor today and we were talking and he was very happy to hear the first words out of my mouth thanking God that I didn't go down rather than cursing Him for this incident. Luck is how you look at it. Yeah, you could say I have bad luck but look at what I have walked away from!

Thanks for the support though! My E-friends are awesome!

I dislocated my shoulder when I had my accident and after it popped back in it was sore for a about a week but I never had any numbness issues or a lot of pain.  You may have dislocated it worse than I did??  either way, try to rest it and stay off the bike for a while.  hope you get better soon!!

Well, I hate to see anyone down for long, especially during riding season, but if staying off the bike allows you to get healthy then I hope you don't ride for a while.  I'd rather have you healthy and around for a long time.  We still like you even if you're not riding.:thumb:

Sorry to hear about the shoulder.  Hope it's feeling better!

If it's any consolation, I took a bug the size of a large cicada on my visor....guts everywhere.  Had to stop and clean that junk off......

Ok, so maybe no so much consolation.  But feel better!
No GS yet......waiting for friend to give it back......

Oh yeah I've taken quite a few bugs! I remember one morning I was riding in to church was nice so I had the visor up with my sunglasses one. Only way I can really ride without the contacts drying out too much visor/sunglasses. About a block before the church got hit right in the face. It splattered everywhere all over my face glad I had sunglasses on! Sooo, I run into the church for the bath room still with helmet on! A real nice lady ran after me because they know my illnesses. She walked in as I was taking the helmet off and promptly threw up! Another lady came in and saw her yak and at least she made it to the toilet!

Took about fifteen minutes to get cleaned up. Kinda felt bad for making everyone sick LOL! I'm close to needing a new visor from all the bugs but when I talk to people who don't wear a helmet I just show them the visor and they get the idea!

One good thing about Easter though. When I was leaving there was another bike there so I waited to talk to them. Came to find out the only reason they stopped is because they saw my bike parked there and thought it would be a good place cause the accepted bikers. So, we talked for a while and thought it was awesome that my little Flick brought someone to God.
