Hey all,

I found an '02 with less than 5k miles.  It's at a dealer.  Has scratches on rear plastic fender, prob from bungee cord...  Scratches on right Suzuki emblem on motor mount.  Can't take it for a ride since it's 10 degrees here...  So they wanted 3500 and lowered it to 3000 eventually, but I have to pay 400 processing/tune up package bringing total to 3400.  I know this 400 is pretty much BS ( :bs: ) If I get them down to 2600 +400, do you think this is a good price.  What have other people paid?  I know high blue book is 3100...  Also what do you pay for insurance on a GS?  What can expect for yearly maintainence?

Thanks for the help.

dont buy at a dealer-you're getting ripped off IMO...but what do I know...seems if you're happy with $2600+$400 and they'll give it to you then that makes it a good deal. I'd still try for under $3k total. seems you could get a better deal from a private party seller.

Insurance? You need to give some more info, age, location, marital status, etc...

as a point of reference I'm 36 yo, married male living in Greater Los Angeles area, multiple discounts (professional, multi car, good record, etc) with AAA insurance-I pay $320/yr fully covered for my '01.

Doa search for "insurance" on this site and you'll come up with several threads on this same question...

Good luck and welcome to the site!

Pablo, talks big for a guy who bought from the dealer :nana:
Lately, $3500 seems to be the standard price for nice 02's.

$3400 for a stock '02 that's probably been dropped seems excessive.  On the other hand, if it's received the popular upgrades listed on this forum (rejetting, suspension, tires, exhaust, air filter), the deal doesn't sound so bad.  If not, expect to spend another $300 or so for upgrades.

If you have stock tires, you can get around 9K out of them.  The same goes for the chain and rear sprocket, but that varies due to proper maintenance.  The stock air filter is good for another few thousand miles, and it's up to you how often you change oil and filter.  The valves hold their adjustment well, so that isn't a routine service cost.

The best thing about your current situation is that you have leverage due to the poor weather to chisel him down on the price.  But that works both ways, since you can't test ride it.  Try to get a 3 or 6 month warranty included if you can.  Good luck, and let us know how it goes! :thumb:

I speak from experience... :nana:
My next bike will also be from a dealer, but it'll be new.

I would say the bike should be more like $2500 to $2800 out the door BUT a dealer will always mark stuff way over what a used bike should be.  Look in the want ads.
