So this morning I decided I was going to ride in to work, and as I usually do I set my helmet on the seat to start the bike (I know rookie mistake).

well unlike my normal routine I straightened the handlebars before starting the bike and wouldn't you know... my freaking helmet fell off.... *grumble**grumble*

so besides just venting about my stupid mistake (sorry) ... I am wondering...

does anyone know if HJC has a policy where as I can send in my helmet and have it inspected? and if not does anyone know of a company that can do it?

I go to a court house or post office and have the guy use the x-ray machine to check for cracks in my helmet. They are nice about it when they are not busy.

Honestly, I would not give this a second thought.  A helmet shell is designed to withstand exponentially higher forces than a fall off the seat while empty.

The reason they say don't re-use a helmet after it takes a hit is because when your head compresses the styrofoam inside, it is no longer able to insulate your skull from shock.

If you don't see any cracks, forget it.  Unless you like have stock in HJC...then by all means generate more profit for them.

I'd ask HJC.  I've heard they're good about responding to inquiries.

I wouldn't assume it's good without a check.

And yes, put it on the ground headhole-side down. ;)

If you go to the Snell website. They say with a DOT helmet a drop like that is no big deal. Now if you dropped your helmet going 55 down the highway ( like you wouldn't be wearing it anyway - That is a different story )

I had a similar issue and know for a fact they don't offer any service to check the helmet.  I think other mfg's do though.  Here's what HJC had to say in response to my inquiry in an email last month.
