The indicators are so much brighter.  I will have to turn the bike on at night to see how the gauges look.

I went with the "Cool White" color from superbrightleds.com

The WLED-x6 for the indicators and WLED-x5 for the gauges.

The indicators look bright enough to be seen even with direct sun hitting it

//Edit: Scroll down a few posts for the pics.

I'll try to get some tonight when it's darker and you can see the gauges lit

Unfortunately I didn't get any before shots so it's kinda hard to tell a difference, but i believe with these two pics you will immediately be able to tell that they're much brighter than the stock bulbs.

The gauges are a little harder to see because it's still bright out.  I'll try to get some pics tonight.

It seems like having such bright guages and indicators is going to be really distracting at night.

TurkeyChicken

My helmet usually blocks the indicators.  I don't do much night riding anyway... so I don't think it'll be too big of a deal.

For the gauges, they should look fine at night.

I thought the turn signal indicator had problems if you went LED with that one, (without putting resistors or something like that).  Thats why I havent changed my indicators yet, my gauges are LED already  :D

well the 2002 and older GS500F have different indicator bulb, and I still can't find any non polarized led bulb! they are smaller bulb!!

everything works fine with led, except the turn signal, I don't wanna slice into those tiny wires, soo I kept a regular bulb for the turn signal!

It looks like your bike is about to drop into a swimming pool, then I realized it's the windshield!

Yeah, read something about that too... just went with it anyway.  Flashes fine for both directions, so i'm not sure what the deal is.  My bike is an '01.

i'm jealous that you've got a pre-f E.  I'm not sure that non-polarized #74's are available for me to use on my 2k5 turn signal light, and honestly, that's one thing i really want brighter.

it's two 194's per gauge for the dial backlight, right?

two bulbs per gauge?  Not on mine at least.  I just have one WLED-x5 in each gauge.  This is the one where there are 4 small LEDs pointing in each direction on the side and one on the top pointing up.  This gives the 360' light.

If I already have a diode in place for the turn signal indicator then an LED should work correct or do I have to undo it? Ugh, it's confusing to me!

#74s don't come non-polarized, at least that I could find anywhere. You can force 168/194 non-polarized LEDs in the later F models by grinding down the sides to the wire contact on both sides, then installing the LED in from the top. The bulb socket is rubber so it will stretch to fit the ground down LED, I don't think there was enough clearance to push it back through the hole so I installed it from the top since I already had the gauge bracket off because I was replacing it.
SuperbrightLEDS.com doesn't list their green 6 LED 194 as a non-polarized but others and myself are using them. Turn signal indicators are now visible in direct sunlight and blinding at night!
