So finally a GS500 is available for sale somewhat close to me.  It's at a dealership and they're asking $2700 for an 2006 with 12,100 miles.  Not really sure what to make of it, if it's a good deal or not.

Pics can be found at the following link... http://www.netlook.com/vehicle/detail/pre-owned/2006-suzuki-gs500f-11987742-0-524465.html

Not sure, but the bike looks different for some reason.  Is it a different fairing or just with decals removed? The ghetto wind screen needs to be removed for sure.  The dealer said they serviced the bike which consisted of an oil change, and an adjustment and lube of the chain.

So, any advice?

Well those definitely look like the factory fairings sans decals.  The levers (brake and clutch) don't look right though.  Also see some damage on the engine case... looks like it was low sided.  I don't know what kind of internal damage was done... but it probably has an issue or two (probably with the carbs).

A lot of people find similar naked gs500s for less... or better condition ones for that matter.

Hopefully a few more experienced people will chip in for you.

that looks like the stock fairing but doesn't have the stock decals on it.  The lever for the front brake is definitely not stock.  Also they don't show any pictures of the left side of the bike.  Bike was definitely down on the right side so no telling what the extent of the damage was but they repainted the lower fairings so potentially cracked and don't know the extent of the repair.

When i bought my bike it was slid on both sides and it was obvious since the PO didn't put any effort into repairing the scrathes on the fairings but to me atleast you can still see the damage and assess it from there.  Once it is covered up their is no telling what the quality of work they did to repair anything that was broken.

That would be a good price if the bike was not damaged, but it clearly is. I think its missing the rear mudguard/fender piece that most fenderectomize. The front signals look weird, the decals are gone, the engine has touched pavement and someone took matte white spray paint to the windshield. If it runs good then try to get it for a few hundred less knowing it will take some fixing.

Dealers always charge more than private parties for comparable bikes.  The only reason to go to a dealer is for a really good deal on a brand-new leftover bike of a MY or two ago.

Ever get down to Orlando/Kissimmee? I bought mine at Central Florida Power Sports. This was in '07 but it was an '04 with 5,000 miles for $2800 never dropped was in imaculate condition. They have three there right now that have no miles. Not sure on their price but might be able to see on their website I think it is www.mypowersports.com

If you do come down I can meet you if ya want!

The dealer Price is indicative of ...
1. What a big scumbag he is ...
2. How high their overhead is.
3. The cost of cleaning and polish.
4. The work he knows that needs to be done that he will now make you pay shop rates (95 bucks an hour) to do.
5. How he'd get you out of this when the payments get too high and put you in a GSXR ... like it was abig favor he did for you ...

There is many more, but I have other people on 3-4 sites to pester ... naaaa there is other people on this site ... yea ... I've been banned from everywhere else.

Yeah, salesmen are scum, and the second you walk out the door with it, and bring it back saying something is wrong with the engine, he'll deny there was a scratch on the bike when you bought it. If you're paying for crashed stuff in the first place, I would just buy off someone on craigslist, and pay way *LESS* than that. The only reason I worry about buying a used bike is because you never know what it's been through, but if it's clearly been crashed, and the seller is clearly not trying to tell you about it, then you're definitely better off paying $1500 for something that you already know has been crashed.

You can buy a scratched up SV650 for $2700. These bikes are durable/reliable and the technology isn't moving fast like it would on a GSXR, there's no real reason to even take into consideration that the bike is a 2006. My bike is a '91 and it still runs pretty well. People who pay a lot of money for newer bikes are only paying 50% for the new bike, the other 50% is because they want something new and shiny.

**  updated type, I don't know why I said "more" last time

yeah, don't go near that thing for more than $1500 if you ask me

Hmmm, guess my search continues then!

Thanks for the responses guys and gal!  I like the naked look anyway so i guess I'll just have to be more patient for a deal to come along on an 02 or earlier GS.  Did anyone import an 04 GS500E?

My 48K miler - the guy asked me if it had been crashed. I said, atleast 7 times. Twice I was hit by a car, twice I ran off the road into a ditch, one time I plain slide out, twice I dropped it near about stopped speed. It was possibly crashed before I got it, atleast 1 time. The guy then said, man it sure looks good after that. He tried to ask me about various nicks and scrapes on it ... and I had swapped the left cover when I got goats, and the right was the billet cover if I remember, the tank and plastics were also swapped out as was the grab bar, fender etc etc ... then he goes that's why it looks so good. I say, nope, I swapped it for crappier body work cos I crunched the tank and had to swap that, so its got this matt black tank, and the body I have lying about that was almost all 1 color.

Honesty is the best policy, if you can wow them, you got em is what I say ... no such thing as bad publicity ... or bad motorcycle accidents.

The word 'import' is worth a grand at least, I think.

Just convert an F to an E and tell everyone you imported it.  Or get a low-mile nekkid.
