Well, not getting to ride much lately and was bored today so I went plinking for the first time with some new parts on a gun.  Got a JP15 18" stainless steel upper assembly from www.jprifles.com (great stuff check them out.)  Put about 5 different kinds of ammo through it today and it absolutely LOVED the winchester white box .223 the best.  I was only shooting about 80 yards today but that is all the river bar allows unless you have a ridiculously large truck.  I was getting 1 MOA 10 shot groups at 80 yards though from the winchester which blew my mind.  I got about 4 groups and they were all super tight with that stuff.  Without match ammo usually the best you can do is 1.5"-2", 5 shot groups with cheap factory ammo at 100 yards, but today was just rockin!!!   O0      That was with 20-25 MPH crosswinds, and various problems that were fixed out there in the dirt.  Here's a pic of my little varmint rig:

And a gratuitous pic of my new .44mag that i'm still in my waiting period for   Stupid freaking Peoples Republik of Kalifornia laws  :flipoff:

God you poor californians and those hideous cali compliant stocks so it doesn't have a pistol grip. BTW what scope are you using? Looks similiar to the Barska I picked up off a buddy for $100.
Still waiting for M1 sales to get my .223 upper built and shipped... Hopefully I can find a friggen 6.8 upper faster.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

I can actually put on a pistol grip, but at that point it needs a fixed magazine.  The rules are actually pretty simple but totally illogical.  You can have a pistol grip, flash hider, vertical forward grip, collapsible stock, and whatever you'd like as long as it has a "fixed magazine" which means a little shroud around your mag release that makes you have to put the tip of a bullet in it to release the mag.  If you build a "featureless" rifle like mine that has no "evil features" Per. california guidelines then you can have removable magazines.  Mine has whats called a Monster Man Grip, a muzzle brake, not a flash hider, and no other "evil features".  Twas fun though.

You ever watch Tosh.0? there was a 30 second video clip last night showing a bunch of people back to back shooting guns, which I assume was their first time, and every one of them got knocked in the forehead when the gun kicked back, it was pretty halarious. Some guys with bigger guns got completely knocked over.

Had a good day shooting today myself :2guns: Dear god I had forgotten what a 30.06 feels like. Think my shoulder may be dislocated  :icon_lol:, bought a ruger M77 off a guy who said the range had helped him zero his scope in... at 200 meters it was 30" low :cookoo: I say this only because the drop between even a 25meter zero and 200 meters is only 14" not to mention that the drop between 100 and 200 meters is only 9". 30 rounds later we're dead on at 200 and ready for deer season. Come on Thanksgiving week :thumb: Daddy wants some venison for the freezer.

Just got my 1911 back from the smith (new WC extractor and all springs along with polishing the feed ramp and a WC FLGR).  She shoots like a brand new gun.  I'm on the hunt for a nice IWB now.  My Galco slide holster just isn't quite concealing enough in the clothes I want to wear.

Man, I'm glad to have my 1911 back.  The p32 is a lightweight and the Taurus scares the he!! out of me. (snub nosed .357, kicks like a mule on steroids)

Milt sparks summer special. For untucked IWB carry the best design there is IMHO.

Next up is a comp-tac Miotaur or Crossbreed super tuck. I have been carrying with the crossbreed and I like it.

Sparks you either pay too much or have to wait 4 months  >:(

I'd heard good things about the crossbreed/minotaur

I'm leaning pretty heavily towards grabbing one from lobogunleather.com

I wish my parents had introduced me to firearms when I was younger. As is, I have practically zero experience or formal training, and that doesn't make me happy. I've shot a black power rifle once, shotguns a few times, and a .45 Glock for all of 5 rounds, not even at a range.

I really need to take a formal safety/intro to pistols class when I get a chance. Maybe the pistol team at A&M would be willing to help me out...

or the local gun shop/range my friend. wllbe more than happy. many have rentals as well. so you have hte option of trying different amrs. or maybe you have friends/acquaintances with weapons? many options are open. , heck i love blackpowder shooting, ive got an old blackpowder longrifle which was found in my grandfathers hye-park chicago home. in the attic. i want to shoot that thign. BUT i also want it to be safe as well. it will never be sold . i just enjoy shooting. BTW to shoot on the cheap. nothign beats a 22lr ( to get used to guns/safety etc )

Living in Texas, it shouldn't be that hard to find someone willing to teach you to shoot.

Google shows at least a dozen gun shops with ranges.  Any of them will have an experienced shooter on hand to give you tips, whether it be another range patron or shop staff.

Yeah, but the thing is, I'd prefer having more formal instruction, i.e. the NRA's FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training) program. That basically means I avoid any possibility of getting someone who thinks they know what they are doing, but actually don't. I may very well head down to a range and see if there is someone there willing to give me a run through as needed for cheap. The classes, unfortunately, cost ~$75 and are usually on weekends that I am busy. The classes fill up fast.

I'll take your advice though, and head down to a range to see if someone will be willing to help me out.

Thanks!

Not for the summer special's for 1911's, any other gun or the VM2 is that way.

Alpha drag your but up across the red river, I'll take you shooting anytime.
