Alpha drag your but up across the red river, I'll take you shooting anytime.

If I'm ever up that far, I'll let you know. You ain't exactly close!  :icon_mrgreen:

I'm going to head over to the range after work, see if there is anyone there willing to lend a hand. I do know basic safety stuff (it's not like I've never shot a gun before, and it's not like I'm clueless to safety), but it'll be reassuring to talk with someone to make sure I don't die to death.

Don't mind the idiots that think they know what they're doing but really don't.  They can be some of the best entertainment ever!!
I went out to my range this Sat. and threw 300rds down range.  While I was out there some hot-sh!t moron (Marine) came out and promptly sliced his thumb open on the slide of his tupperware.  Fred (Older than dirt, retired Gunny) lit into him like there was no tomorrow.

I found these little Hitlery Cun ton dolls at a discount store and bought 10 to use as target practice (about 4" tall, set em up at 7m)  It was a hoot.    They had a little W version.  I bought one and shoved a mini newspaper in his hand, upside down, and made his other hand scratch his head.

Right, but not exactly the best people to try and learn from.

I try and stay as far away from the idiots as I can so they don't muzzle sweep me with a loaded SKS or something stupid.  I've had to nail people on stupidity out there and play rangemaster at the far end sometimes because some bonehead will do something stupid that could have hurt someone.  I like the mall ninja tacticool guys shooting their wolf out of an AK with every little thing hanging off it that you could have.  Out there with one of these:
"training" for their ninjeries and trailer park escapades.  Those guys are the best because you can stand there with a 1906 deer rifle and make 1 1/2" groups off hand and they're shooting 5 inch bench and scoped groupings   :2guns:

Went out to the range near my work, the guys there were quite helpful. Apparently I know a lot more than I thought, and really just need some more experience to get my aim down.

Their .22 target pistol was at the gunsmith, so I shot 150 rounds through a Glock 19 (9mm) instead. It was definitely fun. Didn't shoot anything further than 5-6 yards though, maybe next time.

I'm going to head to the university range this Thursday instead. No range fees, they provide all the equipment, you just buy the ammo. 50 rounds of .22 LR for $2.

Vintage racing at Hallett October 16-18 with CVAR. They'd pay me $75/day to be out there. This is tempting. We'll see what school does to me in October, might not have time.

My place in tulsa is 45 minutes from Hallet, give me a shout if you're coming up you can crash at my place as long as you don't mind dogs, my pit and boxer love new people to bug.

I still don't get why people spend so dam much on expensive scopes for their AR's only to shoot it at 300yds.  The iron sights on an AR/M-16 are an exceptional design and afford a huge level accuracy.

That said.  I'm thinking about ordering a nice 28-30# spring and playing in .45 super-land with my 1911.  Anyone else thought about that?  185g JHP's at 1300+fps just sounds like to much fun to pass up.

bombadillo

I have some 185gr JHP .45acp that shoots like a dream without any issues out of my p345d.  I wouldn't shoot it out of my 1911 as its more than twice as old as me but wow that stuff is hot.

I'm using Hornady XTP 230g JHP's for carry in my first mag right now, it's just that a .45 super 230g XTP runs 1100+ to the .45 ACP's 890.
