Hey guys,

I have been looking heavily into a FE swap using the above listed GSXR FE.  The prices are coming down on them over the summer for some reason and I was wondering what all would be needed to use this year(s) FE?

What machining or adapters would be needed?  has anyone done this yet?  Are GSXR FE's usually the same, etc....  I have read for hours on here and the net and can't find much about these newer years.  I know Psyber Optix used an '02 (I think) for his.  Because of that I was at least looking for a '02 or newer.  But for the prices, the '04-'05's are looking good.

This is all new to me, but I would love some help and info from those that know.

Thanks.
Jon

Hmm, so what is the latest model year GSXR swap that would work for the GS then?  AM I barking up the wrong tree here?

i used 05/06 gsxr 600/750 forks... i used an 02 wheel (01-03 gsxr wheels are the same as 99-07 hayabusa) and 320mm rotors.. Because the 05+ forks use radial calipers its easier to mix match rotor diameters by shimming the caliper.... otherwise match the wheel to the CALIPER you have.

...its all in the thread

My advise... be prepared to be innovative. Depending on the year, you will have to plug up the tach mechanism, and find a spedometer option. your gauges will NOT transfer. You will need to press out the GS stem and press into the GSXR lower clamp and create a spacer for the upper clamp/stem nut. Again, theres a writeup explaining how to do all of this on wiki. It's not difficult if you use a little imagination. It's actually really easy once you have all the parts. The hardest part i encountered was bleeding the dual calipers.

IF YOU CAN JUST BUY THE COMPLETE FRONTEND....don't piece it together because it will be a lot more expensive in the end.

i have gsxr clipons if you need them

I was wondering when you would chime in, lol.

I am the MacGuyver of innovation when I need to be.  Give me a stick of gum, a paper clip and a match and I will amaze you?!?!  :D

Seriously though, i am more than capable of doing this if I have some insight.  I have been reading all day about people doing this to SV650/1000's:
http://www.sv-portal.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26910

http://sundaybender.com/archives/2007/02/22/fork-off/

Now I know that the GS is not a SV, but if an SV FE can be made to fit a GS, than a k4/5 600/750 FE can as well.  I have been scouring the bay for a while looking for parts and am about to bid on a couple.  So far though, I am not wanting to spend $500-$900 on a complete FE.  I have found many options though: forks, forks/calipers, forks/lower triple, forks/upper triple/lower triple/calipers, etc....  The options are endless.

I guess what it comes down to is what I will need to do for the stem and radial brakes.  If I can figure those parts out I think I can do it pretty efficiently.

As for your thread, I have read it more than any other thread on this forum.  Still a lot out there that I am not aware about when and if I do it.

As long as you match your brake rotors to the proper wheel, and caliper it should be fine. It's a pain otherwise. as you will have collected parts and see a REALLY good deal on a wheel....but realize it wont ever work without changing to a tabbed caliper setup...which then requires changing the fork tubes...which then require a new triple with smaller fork tube diameters...ugh.

you are taking care of the hard part now, sourcing parts. As far as the install, you can definitely do it yourself

oh one other thing....try to source some TL-s clipons, they are raised....your wrists will thank me

The GSXR 02-09 is a literal drop in fit onto a SV1K. Nothing to mod. Nearly nohting ... the preferred mod is sv1K rotors cos they are the largest F^cking rotors ever made or some such crap. Identical ... down to the shitty ass ball based neck bearings.
SV650 FE does not fit a GS without the massive mods you are now comtemplating, and its not at all worth it.
SV650 shock doesn't do much for a GS either though it can be drilled and fit on.
Cool.
