Completely non GS related but since I had the digital camera to take pictures of the Katana I thought I'd snap a few shots of this:

Take a $40k '08 Tundra and do a half-assed modfication

Add some weird looking wheels

Put some cheap ass spacer blocks in the stock springs

And for good measure, cut the trucks frame so the driveshaft clears!?!?!?

I don't know, those "mods" almost make sense to me.

This drives me nuts...

I used to know a guy who had a lowered 4x4 dualie. That guy was a d0uche.

Everyone knows the "frame" is just extraneous steel, utilized to placate the steel industry and its union rules.

And spacer blocks add stability to the suspension.

The truck just needs a rear wing to make it more aerodynamic and faster.   :thumb:

And that green F-150 is badass.

Sorry, I'm just feeling  :icon_twisted:

i don't get it how does the drive shaft hit the frame if you lift the truck?

Is it too much of a downward angle from the transmission to the rear diff?

Caffeine- Hilarious.  The best is when a truck like this comes in for "Pulls to the left" and expects his warranty to cover it

yamahonkawazuki - Toyota's are expensive to begin with but these latest trucks are ungodly.  Even a base 4-runner stickers at over $30K, decently optioned Tundras are mid $30's, decked out Tundra's low $40's, Sequoia's are low $40's and Land Cruisers are $50-60.

dohabee-that's the driveshaft for the front axle.  It hit the crossmember where the engine mounts.  Guess a Sawsall took care of the problem

As I was laying awake last night, pondering the universe and quantum string theory, I wondered, "What the heck made this guy saw through the damn frame of a truck?"  It had to be just plain youthful inexperience.   I'm guessing he is about 19 years old and son of rich parents who bought him the truck.

Then I wondered, "Exactly what problem arose that he brought it to the shop?"   He must have brought it to Toyota (Yeah, probably that "It pulls to the left..." problem) and they saw what he had done and said, "Not only can we not fix it, but your warranty is voided, and, for legal reasons, we won't touch it.   Get it off our property."

I'll guess  he either took it off road and something in the front suspension broke, or he loaded the truck with something heavy and couldn't keep it in a straight line going down the road.

And that is one ugly-ass F-250!

I have to go chase kids off my lawn now...

just because a truck may say you can pull X-amount of weight, doesn't mean you should push it to that limit or that the truck is even capable of STOPPING safetly after getting said weight moving. stopping power is more important IMO than actual towing capacity.

Never tow big without trailer brakes. Ideally that would be never tow without trailer brakes, but half the time you can't get trailer brakes on a lightweight trailer. Pulling a heavy trailer without them is insanity, as is overloading a lightweight trailer that doesn't have them, or towing a heavy trailer with a vehicle not capable of the job (and lacking a brake controller as well, usually).

My 95 F150 died (needed cumulative repairs worth more than the truck by a factor of 3 or 4) in the beginning of August. I replaced it with an 02 Tacoma - same tow capacity (the manual tranny f-150 has a very low tow rating), better milage, generally better reliability, but I do have to get a bit creative to carry 4x8 stuff without a trailer. Let's see - Subaru Brat, Chevy Corvair (only non-4wd), Toyota Tercel wagon, Chevy  4wd 1-ton crew, F150, Tacoma. IMHO the tundra is an odd duck - not that much bigger than the tacoma, but gas mileage like the F-150, since it has the big motor (hardly needed - I have the 4-banger in the Tacoma, and would have loved to have a 6 in the CC-1-ton rather than the 350 V-8 it had.)

The XJ (got a few years before the big chevy) and the GS to try to reduce the amount of time the trucks have traveled without anything in them, or with piddly things like groceries, and to increase my personal gas mileage. I do sometimes take the truck when I know I'll be coming home exhausted - it's safer when the brain is not all there. I have avoided drinking away from home (regardless of what I'm driving) without a designated driver or a spot to sleep since I started riding motorcycles, so that doesn't enter into my figuring.

Other than the tow comment, damifIknow what the rest of this has to to with the thread, other than the green truck is stupid, and chopping frames is stupid, and jacking up even without chopping frames is usually stupid (and sometimes results in upside-down jacked-up trucks that tried to take a corner.) If I want to customize my truck, I'll build a utility body and ladder rack for it...
