do we need rules to prevent thread dumping?

nope, it doesnt bother me
yes, it is annoying when people put-down other peoples merchandise, or prices

jeremy_nash

on other forums I am on, there are rules to prevent thread dumping, we dont have any here.  here is a good example from the svrider forums

"If the price is too high, it will not sell.

Don't disrespect people and their advertisement.

Keep questions pertinent to the deal.

Do not trash a persons efforts to sell their merchandise.

You want to offer a lower price, do it via PM.
Keep the trash talking out of the thread."

it should be, but unfortunatly, it isn't always followed,  so come on people, is it annoying?  do we see it here on this very forum?  if so, and you agree with me, please vote on the poll, and if u disagree, then vote that way too

I can't vote right now because I'm on my Blackberry, but I fully agree with this. This should be stickied.

This is a great thread/poll.

I used to frequent the ninja250 forums.  I've spent way too much time on the Hayabusa forums.  Now I'm addicted to the SV forums (my new ride is a copper 03 SV650S).  I've never seen anybody bash anybody else's parts...EVER.  This is the only forum where it's "OK" to bash other people's stuff.

Sometimes it's better to have a forum with fewer rules and honest people.

The Buddha

I do it dont I.
I actually only do it (atleast I think I do) when there is a accompanying urgency and there is a problem that seems to contradict that.
Like "must sell" and the sheite is broken. It actually prevents someone from buying something and forking out $ for shipping junk. Stuff like that.
In this forum its not prohibited its only frowned upon. I actually dont care at all. I think it prevents the sale of junk to a newb who cant tell.
Cool.

BTW if there is no price on the thing or in some cases missing other salient information, like year, make model and mileage if you're selling a whole bike, or heck, location too for a large item like a bike or motor its not a for sale thread.

In some sites I go to, open ended ads like that will get deleted ... no warning, no notice no nothing, forget dumping where you get a chance to post back and cover your a$$, poof, gone and you wont even know why.

Cool.

^Which is also annoying.  RX7Club, for example;  All classified threads must contain personal contact and location, full description of the item, a price, no "bumps", and all threads must be approved my moderators before they're visible.  Also threads get deleted after 7 days of inactivity.  No negative comments are tolerated so price bashers and people bashers not allowed.  Violators are recorded without their knowledge, threads violating rules never get approved (and a lot of threads that DO have the info never get approved), and repeat offenders face being banned.

That sounds nice, right?

The Buddha

Yep, you vil post vat ve like, vat ve dont like ve vil delet. I didn't know RX7 was german.

I however have to say I would like to see all the information in the post and location for large objects.

Cool.

Would a PM to the seller really be beneficial to the community?

does it benefit the community to see 2 people argueing over the price of something?  I mean seriously, if something is priced too high, it wont sell.

Big Shot

I don't think we need rules per say, just a way to block Buddha from posting in, "For Sale" threads.  That alone would eliminate 98.7% of the problem...

Say it like you mean it - Bob!

fewer rules and better moderation = ftw

as far as limiting / regulating everything in the world- no thanks.

please read the next part carefully:

some forums have replies like "YOURE f%$king NUTS THATS WAYYYYYY TOO MUCH FOR THAT BIKE !!!!!" and you know what, they're right. keeping prices for things sane is fine with me. some folks get all upset about a part being shouted down. (shrug) i don't.

The Buddha

Yea a buddha blocker ...

I really ignore stuff I dont need @ prices I dont like. I would post only if there is an added twist. I think. Like sheite is broken or stuff is misleading etc.

Lots of newbs read these forums, and some seem to think that the newbs are here for the unscrupulous types to take advantage of, which is why some of us post in those threads to keep the sellers honest, and to help keep the newbs from being screwed. If some seller doesn't like that, I really don't give a sshiittt. If someone is trying to take advantage of the unknowing, or sell something overpriced to the ignorant, they've got this website called "eBay" where they can peddle their trash. If that doesn't work for them, they can post their crap on Craigslist... but they should be prepared to get a workout here from the members who've been around the block a few times, which includes Buddha, Pablo, me, and a cast of thousands.

I understand why you started this thread, jeremy_nash, but since this forum claims to be "newb friendly", I reserve the right to post anytime, anywhere, to help keep a seller honest, or just to help educate the newbs, and I'm willing to bet that Buddha and a lot of other members feel the same way about this.
