If this doesn't encourage wearing a helmet I don't know what does...

He lived?!?!!?!!

look at his feet, OMG being dragged for a quarter mile. I wonder if he was thinking about how he will never speed again....or ride a motorcycle without being inherently scared shitless

Those pictures have been circulating on the internet for a while and it always seems to have the claim that he lived.  The rider did not live, that is BS. EMT's do not stand around taking pictures of injured people, they try to save them.  Take it as an example of a poor decision while riding on a public street and learn from his tragic example. Be safe out there!

No, he absolutely did not live.  It was in Tulsa, OK and I saw it in the paper after it happened.  Ironically, another very similar accident (young dumb-ass rider going too fast for the street and his skills) happened to a friend of his just a week before.

And some of you don't understand why us old folks don't think a 600cc bike is a beginners ride...

Let me preface this by saying that I hate to see anyone even get hurt on a bike let alone be killed.

These kinds of incindents fuel the fire of the negative stigma of motorcycle riders. The same way straight pipes on harleys give people a bad taste in their mouth and disdain for riders as a group. A few bad apples will inevitably spoil the pie. Thank God there were no other innocent people injured or killed because of this.

True, but one of the reasons that liability-only insurance is so cheap for bikes is that cagers are so well protected and bikes have considerably less mass and strength; the bike isn't likely to hurt anyone besides the rider if shaZam! hits the fan.  This vid with the pic of the guy embedded in the taildoor of the truck is an excellent example.  The back of the truck has little damage and just needs a new rollaway door and a hose-down.  When folks on bikes ride badly, typically the only person they're going to hurt is themselves.

Driving a car/truck badly, however, can take out half a house.  The same incident with a motorcycle might simply end up flinging a biker through the window of the same house, and the sofa/fridge/dinnertable breaking his/her fall.
