Why not to run from the police

QuoteAnother moral to the tale is that you can't outrun a police radio

Actually you can which is why the CHP employs a fleet of tuned Mustang Cobras to try and keep up with the plethora of Porsches and Ferraris that are more plentiful out there.  Many a modern day sports car and most bikes can out run a typical cop car in sheer speed because most police departments are limited to crappy domestic vehicles that simply can't perform.

I also agree with Rich.
Must go faster!

The only time i've run was in the city but before you jump to conclusoins; all I did was hammer the throttle fast and the brakes late as i felt comfortable.  2 180 degree turns and 5 90degree ones and never speeding. just all out acceleration.  I swear my top speed was 30.  Once at my girlfriends house i parked between her car and her moms van and shut of the bike.  Cop goes by a few seconds later. while I walk casually toward him.  Nothin!  This was around dusk and I knew the streets.  No parks around so not many kids and no blind turns.  Just nice smooth LEGAL (very hard) riding.  Then I got blessed out by the girl cause she saw me coming.

Nice avatar John!

I'll have to agree with the majority that running from the cops is stupid.  Almost every story I hear about someone running from the cops has a sound to it like the runner really just wanted to have the story to tell.  I agree that they generally have a lack of respect for death.

That said, I think that cops who engage in high speed pursuits that cause them to end up with their car sideways are equally irresponsible and also share a lack of respect for death; both the death of themselves and the death of others.  In fact in this case, the cop is much more likely to kill civilians than a speeding motorcyclist is.  The biker is likely to kill himself, but the copcar is a much bigger piece of speeding metal.

Now I too share a general distrust for America's police forces, but I understand that most of that distrust should really be directed at a bad system that is filled with corruption from the politicians all the way down to the cop who snorts blow on the weekends and busts high school kids for smoking a joint during 'business hours'.  I think we all now how common this is.  Almost anyone who has known more than 1 or 2 cops personally has known a cop who both drinks and drives and probably who uses drugs on a casual basis.  Yet once they have the uniform on, it's complete double standard.  However, the "war on drugs" should be blamed for this as much as if not more than the double standard of police officers.  It's a stupid war, and it's sole purpose is to gain votes from the older generations.

Anyway, to sum up, people who run are irresponsible, and deserve to do their time if caught.  Cops who chase speeders just for the sake of chasing are equally irresponsible, showing a matched lack of judgement.  Then again, all people make stupid mistakes under pressure sometimes.  Its the ones who plan in advance to make stupid mistakes who really deserve what the innocent victims usually get.

Ok ok. Now this was a question asked right? If I'm not mistaken it said, "Why not run from the police?" To sum this all up, its stupid to run from the cops. 90% of the people who run get caught. I would just pull over and spend $100 for a ticket instead of going to jail. It's common sense for crying out loud.

maybe the solution is to not be riding like an idiot in the first place... you won't have to run from the cops if you don't do something to make them chase you in the first place

and just cause you have a degree doesn't make you intelligent, as evident by the total lack of regard towards common sense shown in this thread by some

Would you care to wage $$ on that?  alittle clue that you may not know, Cops are humans under thier vests.  and just like human wearing other clothing, dont need  "REASONS" to be an ass.    Ever here the terms "absolute power corrupts absolutly?"   well, its like that with small does's of power too..      weather you want to see it or not,  "Probable Cause" isnt just what you think it is,  and also keep in mind, they fill out reports After your in cuffs/beat/shot/or car/bike towed..   Probable Cause is only a pen stroke, its called creative writing.   And the badge/Officers certification adds a few more credibility points over yours.  now, most of the Law Enforcement in broward county is ok, FHP(you might get a ticket, but they arent smart mouthed) same has been proven to me from BSO,Plantation PD,Hollywood PD and a few others. But i think its awful funny when other organizations cant stand 1 perticular aggency. Davie PD.  i have never had a good run in with them, only time i come out unscathed is if they screw up or they try and rattle my cage and i dont budge.  i dont know of other states, but in Florida, the Motorcycle endorcment on the license is on front and says "Motorcycle Also"   and one says, "Your not licensed for a bike"....... ( ive had it for 15+ years.)

or a better one,   i get pulled over 3 x in one week, Not that i did anything wrong.   They wanted to " Check out the bike"  a "safty check"  lights, horn, tires, had one get out a little box to messure sound from exhaust, he was alittle upset when i told him it wouldnt work as my tach wasnt functional and being a unrequired item, i never fixed it.

walking down the street, 4 of us, cruser pulls up, lights on , 2 officers get out,   (mind you its 10:30pm) "seems we've got a complaint about 4 guys causeing distubences in the neihborhood." (now mind you, we were all telling jokes while walking from my house to a house 2 blocks over, laughing pretty good while doing it) officer 2 says, "SO, who's got the warrents and drugs, I'm gonna find out so tell me now"   Officer 1 asks each where they are going and has them turn out their pockets and gives them a pat. once through all this, i make sure to take down badge numbers and car number, they asked why, i told them harressment, and illeagle search.  they threatend to put me in jail on disturbing the peace. i told them sure, free room and board for one night, i pay alittle fine. They however, get a official complaint, an IA investigation. then a counter suite against the PD for which i have 3 others to back me up.

I followed up on it too, and i havent seen them around since.  found out later that both had problems like this on record, but not many people step up to speak out about it.

Cops are just as Vindictive and petty as any other Human. they do a job i wont, but that doesnt excuse them either.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

you didn't disprove anything I said... you gave examples of you being harassed... which although being a pain in the ass, still isn't any reason for you to consider running from the police.

I'll say again... you don't have to run from the police if you're not doing something worth running from

Maniac

I'm with you, saxman.

I've been pulled over and harrassed by several different cops. Something I've learned? Just put up with it, be the good guy. And if they insist on giving you a ticket, take it to court. 90% of the time they don't show up and it's gets thrown out.

I mean, you do know it's a felony to run, right? If/when they do catch you, you'll face a lot more than a ticket...

Im quite unimpressed with your calling me a moron John.

Well, you sometimes come off that way...

I'm not saying you are a moron, but your initial statement was, "I agree with running from the cops, and expoloit the opporitunity whenever given the chance."  That implies something much different than - never doing it in the city, or populated areas, or if it endangers others - which you added later.

And then you say it's your disrespect for cops that prompts you to run.  Which makes little sense.  Most cops I've had the displeasure of dealing w/ have been ass holes, but i don't see what that has to do w/ the legitimacy of breaking the law.  Reality is, you're running from the cops cause you don't want to pay the penalty.

I'm not trying to pick on you, and there's good chance you'll shrug this off with your usual tough-guy attitude.  I'm sure you're NOT a moron, and it's good of you to go back and clarify your previous remarks.  But, it's clear that your young and your posts obviously try and provoke controversy, so don't pretend to be suprised and smugly amused when you get some heat.

Back in my younger days, 21-22, I did run from the HP twice. Just so happened it was back to back nights, at the same time, and the same spot on the interstate. Just got off work and doing 90 in a 55 (I think it was 55, but that was 15 years ago). It was easy to go that speed and not really know it. I had a ZX1000R Ninja then. I was not caught and did not crash.
About 2 years ago while on my TLR I had the chance to run again while doing 45-50 in a 35. Instead I pulled over, showed my license and CWP. I was told to slow down and he drove away.
Maturity plays a major role in how the police view you. I work with a SC state trooper and he has told me a lot about the leniency that can be given to those that cooperate. I still break speeding laws and probably reckless driving/riding as well (if putting my knee down on the street counts). But I know that when I want to really hang it out, I take it to the track.

If you want to read about those that do run and what can happen, go to Tail of the Dragon and read their news section.
Common sense in not very common.

Rich500, no it wasn't fun. besides having my heart in my throat the whole time :o  and about 2 days afterward, being blessed out by my girlfriend :x , scared to death to wipeout the whole time.  so in conclusion; it wasn't fun, I wont do it again and I curse myself for trying in the first place!  NO MORE!  I agree with the majority, don't run and if I live and find out someone hit me while running.  If they survive the crash with me, they wont live long after that so bring it but take me out while you can!

i dont condone running, for the most part, unless one feels his rights/life are in danger, (now that was ironic) rich500, i dont know what your circumstances are/were, they are none of my business. but if you do this, at least be extremely careful. but ive also seen a few cops, troopers, deputies etc, w/ huge chips on their shoulders, so it can be a win/win, lose/lose, win/lose, lose/win situation. :dunno: , btw john sweet avatar   :thumb:   btw, ive never had probs with the rcmp,.... theyve been polite with me, but then again, i was a foreigner/tourist :dunno:
