Before I decide to do this, what do you guys think this is worth here ? A complete , new (2009) black and grey fairing, complete w/ headlight, mirrors, windshield, mounts, etc..
thanks!

Huh?  :dunno_white:

"Complete"? Do you mean complete sitting on a dealership floor...complete still in the crate...complete after sitting on the bottom of a lake for three months...

Mileage? Been in an accident? Rebuilt title? Stunted?

Complete as in:
As new, with 120 miles on the bike. I will remove and ship. No scratches. I just want a basic motorcycle w/o plastic.

What kind of bike are you looking to get after this bike? Another GS500? If you're looking for something similar as far as age and mileage, you're definitely going to lose money trying to sell yours and find another one. The biggest drops in resale happen right when the bike leaves the showroom floor. If you're looking for another GS, you'll probably end up with something a couple years old with at least 1-2k miles on it unless you get lucky, especially considering they haven't made naked GSs in a while.

I think your best bet is just to find a headlight and some headlight mounts, make up some brackets to hold your turn signals so you can just convert your bike. People like buying used bikes, but they do it to save money, so if you're hoping to get anywhere near what you paid for it, people would rather just get a new one from a showroom, not to mention all the titling fees, taxes and interest you've paid on it so far.

I also prefer naked bikes, but I think you should at least give it a chance. 120 miles is only a couple hours of riding. Not to mention it's almost winter, and this is definitely not the time to sell a bike if you're looking to get what it's worth.

Maybe someone around you has a naked GS that would be interested in trading you their headlight and brackets for your fairing?

I'm keeping the bike, it's size and relative simplicity are perfect for me. This will probably be my last motorcycle. The fairing w/ it's "boy racer" look does not suit me. My highway riding is limited so that's not an issue. I'm just looking to turn over the parts to fund the headlight brackets, headlight, etc..
thanks!

I'll give you $100 for the complete fairing set. do it.

ooooh, ha I obviously wasn't even paying attention considering I spent 10 minutes telling you that you should do something you're already planning on doing.

Did you look around ebay to see what it's going for? You might do better to sell it in pieces, or course then you have to ship a bunch of things instead of one.

Another questions that's semi-on topic. How similar are all suzuki headlight plugs? I also don't care for bikes with full fairings, but still hope to grab a gsxr750 as my next bike, and do what treehouse is doing by selling the fairing and putting a normal round light on it. What are the chances I'd be able to find a headlight off a gs500 or a sv650, and just plug it in? It seems like it would only make sense for all of the wire harness collections to be the same, but I know it doesn't always work that way, plus sportbikes usually have 2 headlights, but still. Anyone have any experience with this?

I was looking at the 7" round headlight w/ brackets as sold by Aztec 8, looks like a simple plug in short jumper harness is also included.

look up the headlight bulbs for the different lights you want, if same part number, then same plugin connection

Its pretty rare that someone would want to buy the entire complete fairing since motorcycles usually only crash on one side. You could probably get a lot more money splitting it all up (you could get as much as $100+ per side and maybe $75+ for the headlight). As a complete package I doubt you will find an interested buyer for more than $250.

Since you have asked in this post ... I will volunteer.

I bought a near perfect complete set from someone here for 200 and 60 bucks shipping.
I am yet to touch it, I'd say there are more people taking them off than fitting them on, and fairinged bikes when crashed just go naked, cos this bike works better that way. I now think I paid too much for it.

Supply and demand, like a stock shock or exhaust lists for 600 bucks to a grand ... I have 3 shocks and atleast 2 exhausts that I will give away if you come by and take em.

If supply out runs demand by even 10%, prices have to drop like a rock. Gs has a lot of parts that will be too much $ to ship even if they were free.

Cool.

Yeah, its how most of us ended up with a GS in the first place. Then we are forced to love it.

BaltimoreGS

Have you considered just storing them in the attic/basement/rafters in case you decide to sell the bike later?  On my last dual sport bike I bought new I got a second set of plastics and a dented tank off ebay right when I bought the bike.  When I was ready to sell it I threw the original parts back on and the bike looked great and sold quickly.  My 2 cents...
