you dont need the tank off only the side fairings.  only takes 5 mins and could save your motor.  i dont understand why people buy a bike that is as easy to work on as the gs then get lazy on doing the final check to make sure its set right.  its not that hard.

well for me to take the fairings off would take awhile, and the thing is either blown or not at this point, it ran like that for a long while, it's got more fuel in the mix and has no tick or ping anymore. I'll pull the plugs when I do my chain adjust in a few days, and if it goes out before then it's screwed anyways :dunno_white:, and with how rich my garage smells after warming it up today, I'm pretty sure it's not lean. For us mechanically disinclined people, even simple tasks take forever man

ok but to check the plugs dont pull the tank.  and your chain tension has nothing to do with the plugs either.  just letting you know since your mechanically disinclined.  If your so helpless then dont ask questions just goto a shop.  i hate people that want to do something and want to know how then make F***ing excuses as to why they cant to it or they will do it when they do a different part.  its 5 mintues to pull a side fairing for you me or the munkey down the road.  theres 5 frikin allen screws and 3 push pins.

Its not my style to ever get in the mix of an online fued, as I have said before, its dumb as f*** to argue over online but Josh your are being an @$$hole.  People like you just ridicule people like F.B. which keeps them from ever learning any mechanical skills.  This forum is meant to help everyone, especially the ones who have no idea what they are doing.  I am a mechanic by trade, I work on helicopters and I work on cars, but I have never had or worked on a bike until I got my GS.  I used to be the biggest jackass here but I learned.  I havent had to take my fairings off my bike but I bet if I did it would take longer than 5 min because its my first time doing it and thats because I have all the tools.  Do you know if F.B. has metric allen wrenches?  Or metric tools in general?  if he doesnt thats automatically a 1 hr job just getting tools. If your going to post something then make sure its helpful or dont post at all.

F.B.  if you decide to take your fairings off then get metric allen wrenches because if not then you will more than likely strip the bolts.  Good luck buddy.

FatBastard

thanks joker, josh, I got the tools and I know my chain tension has nothing to do with engine, but that is the next thing i need to do so while I'm on my ass screwing with my wheel I might as well pull the fairings and check the plugs, but some of us have little things called lives that make it hard to work on our bikes every day. Someone tard farm my post before this gets ugly please

PS I'm mechanically disinclined, but no one is that stupid, that was just a low blow on your part to make yourself feel better because you were having a bad day

I just removed the fairings a couple weeks ago, I believe you need a 5mm or so.  I think. Most of the work on those parts all have the same allen head. for the most part that is.  And on mine, there were 4 screws that connected the side fairings to the front fairing that only fit right if put back in the place they came from.  Took some trial and error for me first time because I hasted through this and didn't pay attention to the differences in the screws.

lol...lives. i am on the road at 6am and dont get home until 5-530 pm.  theres the deal you asked for help then after people try to help you turn into the i cant do that right now. both you and joker need to do some looking around and look at how many times a sipmle question is asked and how many times that simple question is answered.  I have never in my live seen the same things asked and answered so many times and then when someone pulls up an old post some jackass hits them for opening up a old thread.,  I would mush rather see someone do a search and then post in a thread like the 17 tooth sprocket one then to keep posting new threads about the same stuff.  Like umm hysung 250gt tail on a gs.... if that person would have try to look before posting they would have seen it has been covered a few times.  or how about and carb with hanging idle if they looked they would find that in the FAQ section theres a sticky that covers it in great detail.  I am sorry for snapping at you but just pick a topic and search it and see just what i am talking about.

Not necessarily true. I searched for hours about modifying the rear half of a GS5 into a paddle wheel for a house boat and didn't find crap. I think it would work.

I'd say I have to agree that reposting of a Q & A subject is slightly annoying but a couple of things need to be assumed:

Just because they are on this thread and a forum member it is not a for gone conclusion that they can properly use all of the capabilities of the Forum Software search engine. Those that come here for GS help probably don't care or want help on how to use the Forum web site, they just want to fix their bike as soon as possible with out damaging it. SO if you think in those terms;

"The only Stupid Question? Is one not asked!"

Also if you know the answer and where it was asked before simply posting the old thread for them will get them the answer faster then posting how annoyed you are at them for asking repeat questions.

Not looking to join an argument but the search function on this site is not always useful unless you have exactly the right keywords.  Earlier today I was trying to find a post where a guy did a cool green paint job on his bike.  I remember he used a piece of screen to add an effect that looked like snake scales to me, tinted the clear coat green, and had experience painting cabinets.  I tried using all kinds of combinations of words like green, paint, tinted clear, screen... even cabinet and still couldn't find the post I was looking for.

Thanks Josh, that is the one I was looking for.  I think part of the problem is that titles of threads are not always descriptive of the content.  The one I wanted is titled "The transformation begins"  not "My cool ass green scaley paint job"   :laugh:  I am guilty of that myself, my latest paint thread is called "killing time".

When I search "green paint" that "transformation" thread is the 8th result and only considered 28.3% relevant by the search engine.  The first 4 results have something about paint in the titles.  The 5th result which the search engine thinks is 33.8% relevant is titled "how often and with what do i lube chain? noob".  Once seeing that I assume that my keywords were not working so I try some new ones.  I guess it is lack of persistence on my part but I've been conditioned by google to look for my answer in the first few search results and consider anything past that to be unrelated crap   ;)
