So i switched out the stock front signals on my 89 gs to some smaller ones. Previous to me doing the work all signals worked fine off of the switch and everything was honky dory. Now however, after correctly hooking up the signals to proper places as to the wiring diagram i found online, if i put the switch to the right, 3 out of four signals flash( the back right doesn't) and when i go to the left with the switch all four flash. I think i've got something hooked up to ground but I can't figure out what it would be. I checked as best i could for loose wires inside the headlight assembly with all of the front wiring but couldn't find any. All wires as far as i could see were good in the relay area. What would be causing this? Where should i look specifically? What could i have miswired? I'm sure this must have happened to someone at least once, so what can i do to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

you need to post the wiring diagram here, as something is obviously wrong. are they led signals?  if not,  its a simple unplug old wires, plugin new wires
gsxr shock
katana FE
99 katana front rim swap
vapor gauge cluster
14 tooth sprocket
95 on an 89 frame
lunchbox
V&H ssr2 muffler
jetted carbs

120-70-17 sportmax front
sv650 rear wheel
sv650 tail swap
gsxr pegs

that's the diagram i used. now none of the signals are working, and i feel like all i've done is wiggle a few wires while looking for a problem. Also, while searching for a problem this fell out of the wires behind the battery. I'm useless with electronics, so if someone could tell me what it is... it seems to mount on the right hand side by where the flasher is plugged in...I just can't find anything that will plug into it, except for the same wires as the flasher.

So, I think ive got it figured out.  The part i found is the old flasher. Because i changed the bulbs as well, the wattage may be different all around and for the old flasher that was in it. After reading this thread http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=42477.0 im pretty sure that's what I'll need to do. I guess the last owner just kept both flashers in the bike for some reason... The new one doesnt work with the bulbs i put in and the old one seems to be broken(It turns on the right lights, but doesnt flash...) So i'll run to the parts store soon and brag a new flasher.

did your new signals not plug directly into the old wiring?

no, they did. And all wiring is solid, which is why I'm assuming it is the flasher relay.

oh, ok then yeah, try a new flasher and let us know how it goes

OK, so I got a standard 12 volt flasher from the auto parts store, plugged it in, and turned the swicth to the left. All of the signals came on, and then flashed on and off. I tried it again, and the same thing happened. Tried it one more time, and nothing came on at all. After a couple more tries, they would sometimes come on and stay flashing, or just flash once and shutoff completely. I also realized i have three of the same bulbs and one different, and they are slightly different voltage. Could it be a problem with the switch block, or am i still stumbling through bad wiring or the wrong flasher?

Have you tried plugging your stock turn signals back into the harness to see if the problem goes away?

Yeah, if i put the old signals back in it works fine. So what does that mean? Do the new signals have the wrong wattage bulbs?
