Why?

Can anyone explain to me why I bought a GS500?  Every time I turn around there's another problem with it.  If I hadn't put so much money into this thing already I probably would have sold it.  If it's not the carburetors, then it's something else.  This bike makes me so mad/sad b/c I've (and Jessie and my Dad) put so much time and effort into it and I can never get it running correct.

Cause it is cheap and easy to work on.

By the way, cheap and easy to work on means that you'll be working on it a lot.

Actually, I haven't had to work on mine too much in 10,000 miles.  Time spent repairing stuff has been less than 6 hours probably.  I took carbs apart 3 or 4 times, and replaced a Rectifier/Regulator and battery.

But maintenance time has been more like 20-30.

Keep the faith Victor, you have a few more cold months to get it straightened out   :D

I've had to put a bunch of money into it and I've only put 2500 miles on it.

They are usually pretty good ... post up what is wrong wiht it ... maybe you have done it and I have cluelessly sent you to look at the synthetic blinker fluid and change it if its past light amber or 150,000 blinks ... sorry then.

Blinker fluid?  Never heard of it.  I'll check the Clymer's.  Just kidding.

I guess I'm just tired of the same old problems.

Hot babes?!  Don't make me laugh.  They probably think it's a scooter. lol

Strangely ... non of mine were problems. I've had 17. 2-3 I have bought in boxes from 2-3 different people.
I am inclined to think its the injun, not the arrow ...

It's the arrow, trust me.

In that case its likely to be the Injun who had the arrow before hand. I know one like that ... killed a motor in 5K miles, then he managed to crash it, part it, sell off the dash to another genius who get this - cut the wiring ... best of all he cut it on his own side of the dash not the harness side, cos he couldn;t figure out how to get the headlight out - WTF it was smashed in the wreck, he could have taken a hammer to it - and then he sold it back to me ...

Anyway, I have that one apart waiting for GR now.

Its pretty much the injun - current or previous.

Previous injun and stupid buyer (me).  I pounced on something before it was completely looked over.  At the time I thought it was in decent shape and it sounded like it ran fine, but lately, if it's not one thing it's another.

Also, my cars "check engine" light was flashing.  I had this problem a couple weeks ago, but it went away.  Hopefully when it stops raining the car will run better.

Just don't forget that newer bikes have seriously complicated problems. Even if your bike is frustraiting, at least you have the option to be frustraited while you figure it out, instead of being frustraited when you hand the dealership your savings account after they just had your bike for 2 weeks.

The Buddha

Oh you just bought it ... dude all the problems will have to be found and reset ... it has to be the best it can be at this situation in its life. You cannot get on the road without knowing what is the situation with it and what it has in it.

All the wear in a bike is taken by bearings and most of the liquids are held in by seals and gaskets. We have to check and replace all of those then there is wear items, tires, brakes, bulbs and others, all of it has to be looked over.

Oil, gas and air filter have to be new. That is a minimum, when you leave your house, you should be 99% sure you're comming back on it.

Yea flashing check engine in a car usually is stupid stuff like gas cap not on or bs like that.

I've owned the bike since May or June, so it's not necessarily new to me.

ah haha. Once I get my bike on the road again this spring I plan to spend a lot of time riding within walking distance, and in places where if it cuts out I can just pull over and park it, although I hate riding inside the city and will probably get bored with that pretty fast.
