Do you think it will work?

As my dad says, "Do you think it will work?" And I usually say "What?" and he usually replies, "Windshield wipers on a goat's ass." But in this instance, I am really curious if it will work. Even more so, I am curious if "I" can make it work. Not the windshield wipers but a 93/94-ish gsxr swing arm, with a 2002 GSXR Rear wheel. I have read many of the threads (the ones I can find) and I know it's going to take a lot of work but I am really curious if I will be able to fit it. Mainly to make the bike more of "my own" and more unique for my area. So, here are some pics for good measure. In the pictures, I simply got outside a couple of weekends ago and took off the rear swing arm and tried to fit the replacement. It is close. I don't have my gs measurements right in front of me but it was something like 215mm at the pivot compared to the 225 of the gsxr pivot. There are a couple of collars on each end of the pivot of the gsxr swing arm that are a bit over 5mm thick. They don't look to be pressed in but they also don't look to be welded. So, I am wondering if I can cut / grind those down carefully enough to get the fit that I need. (EDIT: As I looked closer inside the pivot tube, I could clearly see that the sections I was talking about can be removed.)

The biggest problem I see is going to be having spacers made for the bearings so that I can use the stock GS pivot bolt as opposed to drilling or cutting out the frame. I also read (and saw) where I will need to grind the frame so that the wider swing arm will not rub but it doesn't look to be a whole lot. Other than that, it looks like it might work.

And here is wheel I bought to try. (Well, scratch that. According to the seller, their account was "stolen" and all of their sales were "changed" to .99 cents. They canceled the sale on me. (I think it was one of those Stock Market, "fat finger" mistakes but oh well.)

if you look around you might even be able to find bearings that will fit that swing arm and the gs pivot bolt without having to run spacers.  you should also be able to just take an even amount of material off each side of the swing arm spacers to get that to the right messurement.  the only real problem your going to have is getting offset front sprocket and everything else lined up to get past a wheel any wider then a 160mm wide

Yep. I need to do some searching to find out who supplies offset sprockets. I know that until I can do a mock fitment, I don't know exactly what I need but knowing where to find parts and such will help. Any suggestions on where to look?

Also, I am not sure what you would even call the sections that the bearings fit into. They're not really races because the bearings are self contained so would they simply be referred to as collars? Either way, they look to be pressed in and based on preliminary measurements, it looks like the outer diameter of the GSXR bearing is larger than the GS. I'll post some pictures later today of the pivot section for more ideas.

You'll find a ton of information on swingarm swaps at customfighters.com I've seen people swap swingarms onto just about everything over there. Sounds like you've pretty much got it under control though. Just grind 5mm off each side and you'll be in business. www.thebigbearingstore.com if you need to search by measurements

Thanks for the link. I need to look a bit further at customfighters and see what I can find. Only problem is, when I get on that site, I get lost in all the cool things everyone is doing and end up spending hours poking around and not searching for what I intended.
