Hey everyone, so i was riding my bike today (2004 GS500F) and it all of a sudden just shut off and died. When i turn the key to on nothing comes on nothing at all, the headlight, the oil light, neutral light, nothing. I know it is not the battery however because i have an LED system on the bike and it is wired straight into the battery and they work so it is not the battery. I was successful in push starting it but it is sketchy. it is fine when i give it barely any gas but once i try to give it more than just a tenth of a turn on the throttle it acts like it isnt getting any gas and just puts back and forth from throttle and not throttle, does anyone know what is going on with my bike? if you know ANYTHING please leave a comment

Did you check your fuses, battery terminal connections and fuel petcock?

Just a newbs thoughts.

I agree sounds like a battery issue.

I had a battery that broke an internal solder, and it would work for very low amps, like a LED or the volt meter, but when I tried to run the bike off of it, no lights, after a push start the same poor running symptoms you describe hobbling it home.

I tried a known good battery and everything worked.  I could have jumper cabled it to a car battery, with the car NOT running.  A car alternator is too strong and will fry the GS so I have heard.

Let us know what you find.

Good luck
Keep adding to the carb jet matrix!

Hey guys thanks for helping out but before i could even read your posts i took the seat off and looked around and found the hidden fuse and it was blown and its working fine now so thanks guys because you were right!

A blown fuse is in itself not the problem. Find out why it blew or you'll be stranded again.

Ditto...it blew for a reason...occasionally you will get one that just goes but I would look for a short somewhere.

Good Luck

Was it raining recently? Did the bike get wet?

Check the fuse holder for rust etc and moisture. If it doesn't look like a problem you might have someone else that caused it to blow. Look into it, or like the other members said above, you will have this issue again.

Ya you guys were right I tried to ride it today to see if it was ok and it did the same thing. So.....what do you guys think is wrong other than an electrical problem.

:dunno_black: Impossible to really know if anything else is wrong until you fix the electrical problem.  :dunno_black:

Dang it!  Another case of worn out exhaust bearings.

you think it is the exhaust bearings?
