Well...in the beginning...this is what my bike looked like. I have the 18" Delkevic slip on for a 98 - 02 R6 which is a direct bolt on and can be had on eBay for less than $175 shipped. It's a great pipe and produces a good sound along with the great looks. Looking back I would have rather gotten the 14" carbon pipe which I'm now considering seeing as this one is now dented up a little. My OCD won't let me ride anything dented up...yeah, my wife loves that part about me.

I have a long gravel driveway and have been pulling in and out on a bike just fine for over 5 years now. A little over a week ago my brain farted and I grabbed too much front break in it and down I went on the right side.

You'll notice in the picture the pipe that's dented, the alternator cover that is now scratched up and scratches on the mid top of the fairing and front cowling. Also broke one of the bolts to my front master cylinder. I immediately removed all of the stickers on that side and got the glue off with Goo Gone. The plastics took most of the scratches on the stickers. It's funny on a side note, I had spent the whole day at Road Atlanta...

Great. I now have a new project...

Here I stripped all of the plastics off for new paint. I figured it would be easiest to leave the tank alone and try to match the color with silver. I didn't want to get into painting the tank. Krylon Fusion doesn't make a metalic silver rattlecan paint so I had to go with Rustoleum.  I used the rustoleum plastics primer on them after I sanded them down with a 220 grit paper.

I know you love my ghetto paint booth. After the primer dried for 24 hours I sanded them down witha 400 grit paper and cleaned them with a degreaser and let them dry for another 24 hours. I hit them with the silver rattlecan paint twice over the course of 48 hours. I'm really pleased with the result so far.

I'm going to be hitting them with a clear coat probably tomorrow night to give the paint at least 48 hours to dry.

I'll update more as the project continues. It should be about another week...

THE PROJECT HAS SHIFTED GEARS!!!

I decided to go commando on the bike and get naked! I like the dual Dominators too so I ordered some of those, the mounting kit, a new handlebar and was given some cool mirrors from a buddy of mine. I love the new look. I took it out for a ride this evening and I love the ride too with all the wind. It's a little more shaky above 80+ but I never really get that fast anyway. This bike is now "streetfighter-esk" and I love it! Did I say I love it? YEP!

Tell me what you think!

Gravel is an interesting road surface. Sometimes "solid enough", other times it feels like the bike says, "To hell with this straight line shaZam! I wanna dance!" Makes me wanna try out dirt biking just to have a better understanding of control on less than perfect road surfaces. Sucks to ruin a pristine looking bike but hey shaZam! happens and parts can be replaced or repainted

Looks like its going to be sweet, why not just ditch the fairings?  8)

I also ride in and out on quite a long gravel driveway. I just pop it into 1st or 2nd and roll along the thinnest part where car tires go. Sure i might not go in the straightest line, but I end up in the same place. Sort of like a drop of water running down a rough wall.  :icon_eek:

I prefer the fairing look on the GS, though there are some dang sweet looking naked ones too. Just remember, on gravel, rear break only. I always do that, but like I said, my brain farted that afternoon.

Completely the opposite of my last post:  :icon_rolleyes:  I have actually decided to make my bike a streetfighter, eg, neeeekked! Working on it now. I just ordered a new TAG X5 handlebar with a lower rise, I need to get a headlight fork brackets to use to mount my F headlight to the fork. I also thinking I'm going to do what Homestyle on here did and cut my windscreen down and mount it to the light and come up just over the gauges. I'm freakin excited!

Alright, so I've been trying to get this question answered for quite a while now and no one will; maybe because it's stupid but here it goes. When taking on the decals, how do you start taking them off? I'd like to take all the stickers off, but I just don't know how.

When I've had to remove them in the past I used a hair dryer to heat them up then slowly peal them off...you will need to use some kind of mild solvent like goof-off to get the glue residue off....Don't use acetone other harsh solvents.

That is exactly the way I did it.

Thinking of the Dominiator dual headlight now...this will never stop...there's always something cool to buy...money pit...good movie...anyone see it???
