Frame Touch Up

I would like to touch up some marks on my frame over the winter. The marks are from the fairing rubbing against the frame. Some paint from the fairing has sort of rubbed into the frame and it can't be removed. I want to repair this without having to repaint the entire frame. Is this possible? In case I needed to do a full repaint how hard is it to remove/cover all the parts?

Yup its possible and fairly easy, can either use touch up paint, or you can tape off the area around it and rattle can it, or airbrush it etc.

Depending on the final quality you want you will have to go threw various processes of sanding, stripping, coating and baking the final product.

I did a repaint on my 82 honda tank (the ones that had sticker pinstripes IN the paint that where god awful colors) by very carefully cutting out the stickers with an xacto knife, sanding the areas underneath and then tape off the rest of the tank and paint those spots metal fleck blue straight out of a rattle can until the depth was filled then light sanded and cleaned the whole tank and added 2 or 3 light coats of clear , turned out beautiful, I should have baked the coats of clear though ... would of led to a harder finish when a attendant dribbled gas on my tank -_-

As for taking everything out and painting the whole frame, the difficulty of that is subjective in my opinion its no harder then taking a computer entirely apart and putting it back together. Should you go this route (or take any pieces off) make sure when you do so that any bolts / screws/ pieces etc you pull off you know where they came from, make sure you have a haynes or similar book. (I have a triple layer fishing tray I use for projects like that where as I pull off different bolts and little bits they all get divided up into the trays and marked what they are for. If I have a book that numbers all the parts then they get the page number + part number out of the book

As Firstoni said it is straight forward and relativley easy. Taking the fairings of is simple. On the outside they are hex bolts. On the upper inside there are four plastic push through plastic pins. These are a pain in the arse! But a little patience you push the center in and they come out easy. If I recall correctly there are two on the bottom that are similar if not the same. Push the center in and it releases and it comes right out.

Don't be afraid of breaking them but try not to. They are all easily replaced by small bolts, washers, and nuts. I know because I got tired of dilly dalling with the plastic widgets and replaced them all. I like to detail my bike on ocassion :thumb:

Now your hardest part is matching the paint. Test an area out of sight and go from there. There you go that is all you need to know..now you are an expert....er Master Mechanic?  :cool:
