Just wondering what everyones take off procedure is in a get away quickly situation.Only had my bike about 8 weeks and am just starting to give it abit, but when i take off quickly, EG from the lights i seem to get boged down.Im sure its me not the bike.So how do you get the best out of it. :thumb:

With stock sprockets, you can pretty much wind it up to 8,000+ rpm and let go of the clutch.

If you don't want to make a scene, though, you might want to turn the air screws on the carburetors and go up one size on the pilot jet.  That will improve the fuelling at low rpm.

If I want to accelerate away fast I rev it to about 5000rpm, let the clutch out about half way. Let the clutch out from there as the speed rises, keeping the the revs the same with the throttle. Then as the revs get to about 9000 put a bit of pressure on the gear lever and at 10000 quickly snap the throttle off.

Once tried letting go of the clutch at 4000, but chickened out when the front wheel left the ground (closed off course). I'm not sure what would happen at 8000?

I don't see the need to Get Away Quickly - as I take it to mean.

The lights change, I accelerate moderately for the bike, which is faster than the cars - and all is good. Jackrabbit starts are rare. I figure, if a car wants to get in front that much he's going to mix it with the bike, I'll let him go. I'm too Mature to play those games with idiot rev-heads.

Your take off technique will improve. Just remember, you can take each gear up to 9k on the tacho. 1st will easily take you to 60kph. What's cool is, the GS will do 60kph in 4th, but merge onto a highway, leave it in 4th and you'll be doing 140kph at 9,000rpm. Quite a speed range.
