lol, ive driven the putty road a few times, but never ridden on it, so im really looking forward to it..
my bikes been sitting for a while (ever since i moved back to sydney and my son was born)
so, its about time i treated the bike/myself to a day on the road..
oh, then on the way back, once the putty road ends, ill take bells line of road, which from memory is lots more of the same stuff as putty!  :woohoo:

heres a quick map, are all these roads ok?

Just keep an eagle eye out for Law Enforcement on Bells Line Of. And while you ride along that road, why not do a short five minute detour onto Powells Rd for a shot of this
Castle - the guy built it all himself by hand!

If you've not done a long stint in the saddle before - or for a while - make sure you make micro movements and adjustments to your seating position Before you start to get sore (also vary your foot position - heel, arch, toe on peg, lift knee so on tiptoe / raise toe into air while heel/arch on peg, for extreme put feet on pillion pegs). Take along some paracetamol in case your muscles start to freeze up and you need to relax them. Take along Plenty of water and make sure you drink heaps. When cleaning your visor at a servo, don't use the window washing water (who knows what petro chemical crude is in it), instead, use a paper towel you wet with the small pouring cans, from the nearby tap or from the toilet's hand basin. Carry some KFC hand wipes for your visor as well. Every time you stop - every single time - call your missus (she might not say it but she will be concerned about you and will appreciate your calls). Every time you stop, stretch (your quadriceps, ham string, calf, shoulders, upper back, sides. Where boxers instead of briefs as the hem of the briefs will become annoying by the end of the day.

The biggest thing, however, would be to know this is extreme for a first big outing. Looks like you've got 200km to Broke, then 300km from Broke to Bathurst. That's 500km and you still got another 115km to get home. With that kind of distance (tad over 600km) and on roads you cannot travel at 100 on all the way, it's gonna be a Massive all day affair for you. Assuming Google's times are somewhat correct - they never are, but assuming - then you've got two 1.5 hour stints to get to Broke, three 1 hour 20 stints to get to Bathurst and then a 1.5 hour run home. For 8 hours of saddle time. If you average 80kph while riding, that's still 7.5 hours in the saddle. Not saying don't do it, rather, be aware that the day will be long - and - seeing as it's been a while for you you Will get quite fatigued.

can't wait to see the photos... :thumb:

Ah sorry.. apparently theres a little food stop/servo..
never been there, but im sure it wont be hard to find, it looks like a small town, ill try not to blink!

Shaddow

Yep the little fuel/food stop in broke. Its the only place I can recall being worth stopping at so you can hardly miss it if you haven't missed broke that is.

luohanfan

Well, i'm all ready to go for tomorrow  :woohoo:, but cant get in contact with Bubba?
ill have to meet up with him another day soon, or whoever else is doing the next leg if Bubba can't do it..

Shaddow

I'm already too. Tyres are pump, oil checked, Baton in map bag, new bake brakes on and bled. Hopefully the weather holds or it will be a wet good time as well.

luohanfan

Well that's the first half done..
The weather was good and i had a great ride on the way to broke, one big thing i got out of riding my bike again was it reminded me just how well these bikes handle..

I met up with shaddow at broke, (a pleasure meeting you mate!) and had a bit of a chat with him before heading off..

I stopped just up the road as i got back onto the putty, to have a look at the putty road truck memorial..

Next stop was the old halfway roadhouse, not much left of it these days, it burnt down a while back..
I couldn't believe it, i went to use the loo and there is a sign " $1 per person to use toilets, privately run"
Well i dropped $1 in the box, finished my business there and headed off on my way again..

I got stuck behind a bit of traffic going through Richmond, so pulled up for a second at the RAAF base and took a quick pick before heading for home..

I didn't get to do bells line of road, i was warned that it is closed for the moment, lots of roadworks, so ill see if i can do the loop through there when i head off to meet the next person..

Heres a map of my route and the stops i made so far..

Well the relay continues YAY!
Here are some photos of it leaving newcastle. Fort Scratchly, playing with a cannon and overlooking the Ocean's surrounding Newcastle.

Met up at the Broke Petrol/Food/Beer Stop. I think that stop is the entire town of Broke.  :icon_mrgreen: Where I gladly handed over the baton to continue its journey.

Arrived home nice and safe with a puncture in my 1500km old rear tyre. Not happy Jan. Its plugged for the moment.

I'm back now. I've been off doing some training for work. We'll have to organise a meet up to swap the baton over.

Nice too see it on it's way. I want to ask. Will it be passing the Belanglo State Forest? Is anyone willing to get the baton into a creepy shot next to the sign at the entrance?

I'd like to help out with the East-to-Adelaide leg.

I have the baton safe and sound at home. Good meeting you Luohanfan, hope your trip home was OK.

My transport today.

My riding partner for the day.

So where does the baton travel to now? I know a GS rider in WA if it's allowed to be posted somewhere.

Awesome stuff!  :thumb: :thumb:

The baton gets back into Sydney (maybe visits the Opera House or Harbour Bridge or CP Tower or Luna Park or all of them) and heads South, via The Gong (even if it then comes back from The Gong to go inland via The Hume  :dunno_black:) down into Vic, Tas and then to Adelaide. I'm thinking it might need to be posted from Adelaide to Perth and then from Perth to... maybe the former GS500 rider who Was doing the around Aust trip or cause he's partying too much now maybe straight to Pave in Darwin.
