At first I just thought it was the cold weather but it has been mid 70's here. For the first 20 or so minutes everytime I slow down to stop at a red he dies. But, even after an hour of riding he will occasionally do it. Especially, if I slow down quickly. If I rev it pretty high when coming to a stop I can keep him going.

Not sure what's going on.

Dont floridans freeze when it drops below 80 ?  :icon_mrgreen:

Anyway you could have high floats and it can spill liquid gas into the chamber and snuff out the plug by wetting it.

However - plug pull, make sure its rich then do whatever ...
Also make sure you're not sucking air especially when cold, not having sticking float or choke, or have a clogged air filter.

Cool.

Isn't this a symptom of tight valves? Or am I totally wrong?

adidasguy

I have had Junior do that twice. While cold, going down a steep hill and stopping. Started right up again. I figured something was a little sticky or he just needed more use or I took the choke off too soon.

Yes, Floridians do freeze below 80. When I've visited there, people get out their winter coats at night when it is 70 and I'm in t-shirt and shorts. Well, in Seattle we wear shorts pretty much all year around unless it gets way below freezing. (Though I've had to switch to jeans when I'm riding but that's OK - they're adidas diesel jeans so I'm not out of "unifom". Still a few weeks to go before riding again.)

Yeah, Flick starts up and runs no problems just when coming to a stop.

My bike did that one day. It was only after I ridden for about an hour, stopped at a dealership, bought some grips, and headed back towards home. Every time I tried to stop it wanted to die. I just had to keep the revs up every time I came to a stop. Not sure what cause it, but I think I cleaned out the carbs and hadn't really had it happen again, although I didn't usually ride the GS that far at a time.

It's the Harley germs...he's parked too close to the tractor...or he can smell it on you... :icon_mrgreen:

I wouldn't be suprised if he wasn't pi$$ed off at me bringing another bike into the garage. Being that he has now sat in school parking lot since Friday God only knows what he's going to do when I get out of the hospital!

Yeah, gonna take a look at the carbs. Anybody have that link of Kerry's on the valves? Might be worth a look at that too.

Valves going tight will be hell till the bike gets hot, then it will run great. It would stall if you dont rev it ... choke, no choke nothing would matter. Oddly it would start up when cold jus tperfect, just that after that its miserable for 10-15 mins.
Valves going loose will clack like crazy, you'd be about ready to toss it in the nearest ravine - or in your case pull into a harley davidson dealer buy harley davidson stickers and slap em on it.

Yea clogged crap is always fun and always a possibility, as is crappy gasoline, but think - why would it stop being clogged as it gets hotter and clog again when it got cooler - so outside of that I'm betting you're spilling liquid gas onto the sparkies and snuffing em out.

Cool.

Yeah...  When my Honda Fit had that problem, I had to adjust the valves.  They were tight.

dread_au

could it be a vaccuum leak somewhere in the carbs? maybe a loose hose. this has happened to me before. What is happening to flick is happening to my bike. I will let you know how I fix it.

spark plugs are right there under the frame, wide open for an 18mm deep socket

Toogoofy317

Is that the same with the "f" model?

I just couldn't see 'em yesterday.

Toogoofy317

We'll I rode him yesterday and today and he rides like a dream no problems what-so-ever  :dunno_black: Maybe he missed me when I was in the hospital and no one to ride him. Or the thought I bought him a few little goodies yesterday?
