I agree with the post above.  Let's all start 'Friending' Eric Ryan Wiltse on Facebook until he gets the message that we're not going to leave him alone.

Sorry I haven't posted back up yet. I have gotten a little lazy whilst enjoying the ride.  :woohoo: I notice a bit of a tap that sounds like it is more towards the right exhaust so I guess I need to break out the tools and measure and order the shims and get mine done. I am still willing to send my tools out once I am finished if everyone is willing to follow some simple rules:

1. You paypal a reasonable fee not sure what that amount needs to be but I can do some figuring and such) for the kit) to the person who has the kit before you. (I think that it would be reasonalbe to simply start with "X" dollars and keep it the same all around. Then only add the cost of shipping.)

2. Place at least 1 shim in the kit before you pass it along. (Hopefully we don't overload the kit with a bunch of useless sizes.)
3. Place all tools and shims in a USPS Priority Flat Rate box (the $4.95 size ones should do it.) and send it to the person next in line.
4. Post who you sent it to and keep their address in case it goes  missing. (That way, A local posse can round it up. J/K)

Basically, you are buying a set of used tools all in one pack. If you take someones money via paypal or any other method to pass it along, do the right thing and pass it along. If you lose the kit, it will be you responsibility to replace at least the tools or to at least refund their money.

I can see the kit being in possession at least 2 weeks for each person maybe slightly more in case the person has to order some shims. Once this gets going around, there may be enough shims that you won't have to order any and the kit will have all that you need.

Everyone should keep in mind that this is a "community" effort which would help everyone in need so if anyone decides to be a punk thief, just know that the posse may come knocking. (J/K)

I'll try to get on this right away and get mine done.

i know it was great for the forum to have the kit but it only cost me 4 bucks for the feeler gauges and 5 bucks for the shim i needed. Since the shim was so cheap I bought 2 of them and only took like 3 days to get them outta NY i think.  Ill see if i can find the web site i got them from.

Helped my buddy do his valves this summer and you don't need a kit.  If you have some feeler gauges and basic tools that most people have, all you need is the shims.  Don't bother with the "kit" just buy some shims and a feeler gauge and do it.

Hello All. A little while back, I offered up the idea to do a sort of "pay as needed" shim kit. The thought being that I would offer my kit once I was done using it and forward it on. The cost to get the kit would be some sort of nominal fee. Not a rental but basically, you are buying the entire kit for really cheap. (Including a small selection of shims.) Because I am selling my bike, I am looking to put it all together with a few shims that I have. (Maybe 1/2 dozen.) I am sure I have the same shims as most everyone but it might be that I have the size you need. So, by Friday, I will put together the kit for the east coast and the first person that offers up the starting amount to get the kit, will have it within 3 days. (USPS Flat Rate Box.) There may be a couple of items / tools that you will have to source separately but all in all, it will get you started.

I will say this. The tool that I have is not that great but might get you through the swap out. It is a softer metal than I would think is needed and the left edge is a little rounded but should do the trick.

I will post up the cost for you to get the kit and once you are finished, you should ask for the same amount. you will also need to add your shims to the kit to keep it going. If everyone is straight up and honest, it should work out fine. Otherwise, you simply paid a little to get a kit. (No stealing involved.)

Let me know any opinions. I will have it ready by Friday to send out.

OK Bottle line did we find the kit or not? The set of shims is the most important. I set of feeler gauges is 5 bucks. So where is this thing? Can we like sponser a thing on Paypal to get it going again? I will donate 5 $ and run the fund if you guys are willing?

zoltan

Have you considered doing a rolling deposit for the kit to speed up its movement and help insure no one keeps it?

Basically, whoever is next on the list PayPals $100 (or whatever amount) to the person with the kit, and then the person sends them the kit. The next person on the list then send them $100, so on and so on. This way you don't get your money back until you've sent the kit on.

Is this still missing? I'm looking at checking my valves soon.

Anyone in Bergen County, NJ or the metro NYC area want to group up and do a valve adjustment?  Could split shims, tools, expertise, etc.  I've never done it before, would like someone there that has.  I have access to a friends shop with a lift and two full sets of tools.

steezin_and_wheezin

any of you recent posters get any info back? who's got the east coast kit?

i'm Radford, VA(near VA Tech) and will probably break down and buy what i need here soon..

Never turned up.The tools aren't that expensive. My feeler gauge and Pro Motion valve tool cost me about $20.Basic metric socket set, wrenches, and metric allen key pack are all that's needed.Doesn't have to be high quality, but good quality tools.I get my shims from CRC.The shims you want are 29.5mm in diameter.

Awesome! If enough of us that own motorcycles do our own repairs and maintenance, then maybe shops and dealers will lower their labor rates.
