I won't post the forum member, or the specific details but would like to know

1.) Whats the longest you've waited for someone to do repair work on your GS?

not on here, but on another forum I waited 3-4 months on some paint work... wasn't an issue because I know the guy and knew he was busy with stuff (new baby, etc). He ended up doing the work for free.

kinda depends on the work in question how long "reasonable" is.

My introduction to the Buddha was a long one (months)     It was winter time though so I didn't need the carbs and they worked great when I got them back

Well I'm waiting on some work to be done, going on close to 4 months if not longer....A relatively simple job that in all reality I could do just didn't have the time, in hindsight if I knew it was going to take this long I would have done it myself.

I sent an email and will await a reply, if I don't have a reply by Fri/Sat. I will handle it in my own fashion.

4 months is ridiculous.

if i'm flat out paying for a product or service then i expect the shortest amount of reasonable turn around time.  if that person is busy and will not be able to get to it in a timely manner then i expect a heads up on the schedule.

if its a favor or whatever then i don't mind as much.

When I last moved the movers scratched up my tank pretty good for my SV - took the tank in to a shop to get it refinished.  It took probably 3 months, with several calls and what not they finally finished it and gave it back, no charge.  Still looks great!

It depends if Im paying full price for something like at a pro shop I want it done in a few days Flick is my daily transportation. If someone is doing it at a substantial discount then beggars can't be choosey. You know the adage time is money. If I dont have the money for something then I prepare to pay with my time.

Anyways I don't really think this is a favor job, and while I don't know exactly how much a convential shop would charge for the work I'm having done, I have initially offered to pay the forum member a decent amount more than what he qouted, one so the job would get done right and secondly to compenstae him for his knowledge. At this point though I'm not so sure I am going to throw some extra cash his way. Within a week or so, this story will either die, or get real real interesting, stay tuned.

There are people who go through life paying and then there are the collectors. Once I joined the collector side I've been much happier. TOOL UP !. If the dam thing is so broke that I cannot fix it I just buy another one 

I can fix and repair anything other than Auto body stuff, I repair cars, trucks and motorcycles on the side to supplement my main profession in the Psychiatry field.

The only reasons I didn't do this work was that the member came highly recommended, he seemed to know all the "Hot" set ups and instead of me testing, adjusting, testing and eventually getting to the perfect set up, going with this individual would have me close if not spot on, so it was worth me spending the money, plus I didn't really have the time, if I knew it was going to take 4+ months, I would have done them myself.

This story could have a happy ending, and I really hope it does as I really like the forum member I am referring to in this post, but if I get one more run around after the date I set with him this past evening, I will post the entire details of this situation to hopefully warn others, which might take some money and business away from him, and will also go get my Parts in a less than ideal manner.
