Damn, Im actually surprised you have full insurance on the bike. I would assume most people with older GS's would just have liability like me.
Thats all I have.. granted i paid less then 700 bucks for my bike so the insurance on it would cost me more then the amount i paid eventually...

I'm curious how did you go down if she didn't touch you? This happens to me constantly in the land of tourons. I mean before I got my new horn I literally kicked in a woman's quarter panel before she realized I was sandwiched between her and another vehicle. May I suggest a Stebil horn for your new bike $39 @ Dennis Kirk and 139db. That horn has been invaluable to me.

Similar thing happened to my girlfriend last year - a bit more damage.  I ended up buying the bike back from insurance and found a new frame (with title) and swapped everything over, replacing damaged parts as needed.  Now I have a cheap GS500 and she got her SV650S with the rest of the cash.

Last Monday night I was riding and a girl changed into my lane, right next to me. I didn't hit her, but went down.

Have you now learned NOT to ride next to people? (When I ride in multiple lanes I ALWAYS ride so I can see the driver of the car next to me, in his side mirror. If not that then I am in front and he can see me with his eyes. But never Next to. I am sure it drives the cars behind me nuts, what with my constant speed up and slow down to adjust my position accordingly, but screw 'em. And next to trucks is a real no no for me.)

How did you go down (what happened to make you fall) without an impact? Lock the front, back, both? Swerve into the shoulder and front wash out?

A bent frame can be straighened.. thats what AIP did for mine. It was the rear subframe that was bent, they fixed that in a jiffy.

Got a offer for the bike back today, it is lower than I had hoped, but not too horrible. I have a couple of things to work out with the guy that looked at the bike, but that should be finalize tomorrow. Still waiting to hear back from a local store to get a quote for a new jacket for the insurance company.

The good news is they only want $200 for the bike, so I will be buying it back. Not sure if I will fix it or just part it out.

Glad you survived.

What did you learn from the accident?

I was actually passing her when she changed lanes, I was in the curb lane (about to get on the freeway), and didn't really have anywhere to go. I hit the brakes and the horn and started to swerve out of the way, but couldn't go anywhere.

Glad you were wearing gear.... I don't think I'd ride a bike that ever had a bent frame, if you can buy the bike back for $200 you will make well over that on the engine alone if you part it out...

GSnoober

If you decide to part it out, don't forget your local friends here in SoCal... of course, if you decide to repair it, I'm willing to lend a hand, especially if you have cold beer waiting...

Good luck; let us know what you decide to do with this GS...
