Hi everybody,

I'm a new rider - a little over 2 months now - and I'm loving it. I live in Sydney and ride a GS500.

I've ventured further and further from home each ride, and now I'm doing the 70km round-trip to work and back. I'm finding this a little daunting at the start of the trip and exhilarating at the end.

The other thing I'm loving is meeting other riders. People you've known for years turn out to be riders, and they are on for the chat. People you meet while parking your bike are on for the the chat. The coffee guy. The vendor sales rep. The neighbour. My sister (that was a surprise). You talk bike and the riders stand out. What a great subculture. I'm glad to be part of it.

Cheers.

Hello everybody!

Im Johannes, and I'm 24 years old. I'm living in Sweden - Falun to be more specific. For the moment I am studying at the university in Falun, but soon I will move to Spain and take a job there as a bartender. I hope when everything settles down I can also bring my bike since riding season is all year round in spain - at least where I'm going(Tenerife). I'm still taking my motorcycle drivers license, and since I most likely won't be able to aquire it before I move(winter and all) I hope I can take it in spain instead. Can't be any harder than it is where I'm living, now can it :icon_lol:

I'm the owner of a 1993 GS500E which is unfortunately not in working order at the moment. When I fix it I'm going to do some modifications to it as well - Swap out the tailsection for a sportbike one-person seat, Repaint the bike in white, change the handlebars from the original to handlebars more suited for a streetfighter since that's what I'm aiming for. I've already done some minor modificationg by stripping it of its fairings(it was faired when I got it - they were not in good condition), switching the headlight and mask, etc.

Take care

//Johannes

Hey Gramlord, might have seen you out and about in Sydney, what colour GS do you ride?  I'm on a white 500F.

Hi Ourea, I ride a grey naked. North to North-west of Sydney.

I'll keep an eye open for a white flash passing me by.

My name is Tim. Born 22 July 1959 in Fremont, CA (you can do the math), but left Cali when I joined the Army in 1982. After many trips around the globe I finally retired and settled down in beautiful, sunny (did I mention sunny?) Sierra Vista, AZ (about 70 miles South East of Tucson, AZ). I have ridden bikes and motorcycles as far back as I can remember. I raced motocross and worked in motorcycle shops (parts salesman & mechanic) from ages 15-22 prior to joining the Army. I am married to an active duty Army major named Pam. She is very cool and lets me get away with murder, which is why I can pursue my hobbies and passions. I recently purchased a GS500 from a co-worker as a tinker project. It brings back memories of when I worked on GS450Es and GS450Ls back in the day. Anways...enough about me. I am very impressed with the GStwin community/forum and I am happy to be a member. Have a wonderful day, Tim

Searching for a first bike for the 23 year old daughter I came across a 07 GS500F.  It's in great shape with 12,000 miles all stock and the perfect size for a beginner yet big enough to last for a while.  She attended the MSF course and is in the process of logging her first few miles.  The board has been, and I'm sure will continue to be, a great help.
We're in Colorado and I ride a C14 Concours, the wife has a BMW 800ST and we have a 250 Vespa for scooting around town.

Hey guys,

Just got an '07 GS500F, 8600 miles, and in pretty good condition.  I want to get the bike serviced soon to see just how good it is.  I live in Southern CA, so I'm a weekend warrior for now before I start doing the daily commute through downtown LA.  You can call me Salty for short, since that's my disposition these days.

I'm glad to see that there's such a strong community around this little scrapper bike, and hopefully I can learn how to take care of this thing from you guys.

Do any of you have a full-fairing GS500 and have ridden without the side fairings in the front?  I'm interested in taking the fairings off for a slimmer profile (and their protection!), but i'm not sure of the practical nature of doing something like this.

Hello All,

New guy here from beautiful Honolulu Hawaii.  I've been lurking for a few weeks now and already learned a lot.  Just bought my 2000 GS500E last week and am loving it!  :icon_mrgreen: Anyway here is a pic, http://i1122.photobucket.com/albums/l522/hawaiianGS/hawaii257.jpg Still have a bit of work to do to it, but so far it's been great.  Thanks in advance for all the help and advise.

Aloha!

HI all,
I've been lurking and learning for the past couple of weeks.  I like this bike, and I like this forum.  My daughter just bought a 2007 GS500F with 864 miles on it.  Clean, original owner/family.  I'm the "bad influence" in the family, having begun my motorcycle fanaticism in the 1970s when I was a mere teen-ager.

I'm riding a BMW R1100RT (MY 2000) that I've put 55 thousand miles on in the past 5 years.  Spent a year (and 8500 miles) on a Honda Shadow VT1100 before the RT.  That was a mistake (for me, my preferences and my riding style).

Plan to spend a bit of time lurking, learning and (when appropriate) passing on any information I've gained (usually by experience) over the years.  Oh yeah, we live in California, close to the beach in Santa Cruz.

61 yo Aussie guy living and working in Cambodia for the last 20 years (!?) with a Khmer wife, two teenage girls and three Suzuki's - an '08 GS/F, an '87 GSXR-400 and an '08 Step. I got the GS (Califor-ni-aye spec') last year for $3400 from a local importer who had it sitting on her showroom floor for two years unridden. 'only 500 miles on the clock then, and after fitting a new air filter, oil filter, crash bungs, Hagon springs, replacing shims and a damaged disc rotor it suits seasonal conditions all round with another 4000 miles added. I don't use it for commuting, just weekends and days off. I appreciate the Forum cos with no Suzuki authorized dealer (for BIG bikes) I need to make the correct maintenance choices, choum reap lea, KK

Hey everyone,

My name is Nick and I'm 24 and currently living in California, MD. I just got my 2001 GS500 about a month ago shortly after finishing the MSF course. I'm really enjoying it so far, and have used posts on these forums to change my chain, replace my rear sprocket, and change my front sprocket to a 17 tooth. I haven't ever been much of a mechanic so I'm slowly building my confidence and learning from the great information on this site.

Hi, I'm a Scotsman now living in Sao Paulo Brazil. Up till this morning I owned a Yamaha Fazer 250cc. (they only sell this in India and Brazil.) However as of this morning I am now the proud owner of a 2009 Suzuki GS500e. Yes I know they stopped making the GS500e a whike back, but according to the documents it was fabricated in 2009 and is a 2009 model. It was first bought in Aug 2010 and I got it second-hand this morning for $9,000 US with only 1,930 kilometres on the clock. Now that might sound expensive but when you think a 2012 650cc Bandit S is $21,000 US and another $4,000 per year for insurance, I think it's a good deal.

Anyway I have a question if anyone can help; this is my first GS and having done a little homework I want to get the Hyperpro Combination Kit. I am going to the USA next month but I am not sure whether to get the GS500e kit from 2004 or the 2008 GS500F kit. Can anyone tell me if they will fit my bike??

As I said this is my first GS so if anyone has any hints and tips for the new user I would be most grateful.
Thank for taking the time to read this blurb and keep it between the green stuff.
