Where the thumb is, this is the screw that needs to be tighten down and backed off 2-3 turns :icon_question:

Under neath this diaphragm is where the enrichment needle is :icon_question:

Where do I put the washer :icon_question: Between the position clip and needle seat  or  position clip and spring seat :icon_question:

Which one is the main jet, pilot jet and the mid jet and do I needle to do anything with the mid jet :icon_question:

I would really appreciate the answer to these 5 questions for my 2009 GS500F carb setup

Need more information regarding your setup.
What air filter and exhaust are you using?

From your picture the extra washer goes between the position clip and needle seat. The effect of the washer is to raise the needle.

Generally change mid jet OR raise needles. Shouldn't need both.

Idle jet is the small one on the left.
Mid is the lower jet.
Main is upper jet in the brass jet holder.

Mitch79,

thank you thank you thank you.

Is the enrichment needle under the diaphragm in picture number two????

I didn't list any info because I purchased a Buddha jet kit (King Buddha) but didn't know where the jets and o-ring go

Mr. Buddha is all this info given right??????

NorwayGT1

i see you used both my and the other guys pics. just to let you know there are a few differences between my 05 gs and the other guys older gs. just an example, on the second pic you will not have that one vacuum port ring, also the diaphragm is a little different in design the the older model.

first pic, your air adjust screw is right above the middle of my thumb it the one sticking out that has a hole in the middle

second pic. the needle is underneath the diaphragm.

third and fourth cant remember, but it tells you under the sticky thread about the carb at the top of this thread!
jets are the same configuration on all years.

hope this helps dude

ghostrider_23

Yes sir I did use your pics and the pics from the carbs I bought in the for sale section here  lol

So that air screw is the one that has a brass cover over it that I have to remove then screw it down lightly and back it out 2-3 turns???

I plan on using a magnifying glass to see the number on the jets so I don't have to mess with the wrong ones.

The enrichment needle: I remove the diaphragm, lift the needle out, put the rubber o-ring (Buddha kit) between the position clip and needle seat and reinstall it and put the diaphragm and I'm done :icon_question: :icon_question: :icon_question:

NorwayGT1

so what year is your bike?

yup there is a brass cap on top of that thing i used a drill and a regular flat head attachment to drill it out.

no idea about the buddaha kit i need to get one from him and try it out. im sure he will post on here for you when he gets a chance..

as far as the jets go, you cant mess it up they all are different so when you put the new jet in you will see only one that will match it.

just play around with it but be careful man, i mean thats how i learned you know

ghostrider_23

My bike is a left over 2009 I bought last year new. I love this little guy

Scorpion Ti exhaust I bought from The Buddha stock air cleaner and little things to make it look nice

NorwayGT1

cool it looks nice man, specially like that exhaust man

Still looking for an answer to this question:

The enrichment needle: I remove the diaphragm, lift the needle out, put the rubber o-ring/washer between the position clip and needle seat and reinstall it and put the diaphragm and I'm done

The Buddha

Sorry I never came to this site last night @ home. Tonight isn;t likely to happen either ... so I'll answer with general text and not refer to the pics.
You said -
I remove the diaphragm, lift the needle out, put the rubber o-ring/washer between the position clip and needle seat and reinstall it and put the diaphragm and I'm done   - yes and you're talking about it the way it is when its assembled in the bike - and so I also will talk in those same terms.

Essentially yes - however on the 04+ there is a stopper and a spring pressing down on the needle and there is a washer on top of the e clip on the needle.
You could use that washer and put it under the e clip ... and ignore the O ring I sent you.

That O ring is equal to like 2 washers. So unless you need 2 washers I'd leave that O ring out. Need just 1 just use washer on top of the needle and put it under the e clip.

Cool.

personal experience... it took me 3 or 4 times taking that bike apart and putting it back together to get it running just right.
sounds like ghost is just starting out playing around with the bike so im thinking he is in my shoes!

thats why i suggested to take lots of pics that way you can put it back together  with ease and not guess where what goes like i did  :embarassed: lol

Norway,

Thanks for the advise and yes I will take pics, but I got lucky this week and just for the hell of it looked in the for sale section and found my style carbs. I bought them for $40 shipped to me so I will be able to look at a set of carbs other than mine. I should know exactly where each jet is, how to take them apart and put them back together.

I bought the rejet kit from Buddha who I beleive knows what the h#l# you's doing and has perfected the kit with all the time and research he has in it.

So I am going to replace the jets, put the washer underneath the position clip and adjust the air mixture screw out by 2 1/2 turns.

Done, Done and more done.

You guys have rejetted enough and between questions and the wiki, things should go well fairly easy :technical:

The Buddha

The mid main in that last pic is the one that has the serious tool marks on the head.
When you remove the jets remember you are making incremental changes ... a 17.5 to a 20, a 60 - a 65 and a 130 to a 147.5 ... dont swap the 60 with the 147.5 ...  >:(

Cool.

The first picture of the bottom of the new carbs - aren't the float bowls swapped? Shouldn't the drain screws be on the outside???
As shown here? (Oh, someone was asking where the mixture screw was - under the brass cap on each carb.)

ghostrider_23

Thanks all,

Yeah the pics are not mine. Pictures 1 & 4 are from a set of carbs I bought off Bluesmudge
Pictures 2 & 3 are from the sticky section. I want to get a heads up on what I am doing before I take my bike off line and mess with my perfectly running carbs. So when I saw Bluesmudge
carbs forsale ($40) I had to get them.

Adidas, thank you for the pic and making it clear where the mixture screws are locate. After I get my carbs from Bluesmudge
I will know exactly where the pilot and main jets are located so I don't mix anything up. Thanks Buddha :thumb:
