So.... why did you come and ask us whether it was a good trade or not?

You've clearly made up your mind to swap the DL for a GS. Asking us if it is a good trade is wasting our time.

Go make your swap then ask questions once you have your new-to-you GS.

Actually, I hadn't until I talked to the guy about it. I was on the fence but then he offered money on top and that precluded any doubts I had. It's a one owner, older fellow, and in great condition. I think that all things considered, it should be a great deal now.

Go get your GS, take a photo of it and post it up for us to see.

I would easily throw $500+ on top of my '06 GS to upgrade to a Vstrom. That is my dream bike. I think its funny you want to go the other way. Where are you located?

Funny I was just thinking about that myself as to what direction he went.

I got her home safe and sound a few hours ago. Here's a pic: http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9897/img20111211164719.jpg

Guy gave me money on top. Only thing negative about the bike I'd say is that the chain is completely beyond repair on it. Cheap Chinese brand chain that has more kinks in it than a chainsaw blade after you drop it.

As far as the bike...I absolutely LOVE riding it. I went on an hour long ride after I got home and I feel right at home on it. The power is plentiful for every day needs, it'll easily do highway speed, and best of all it's so easy to maneuver at slow speeds or while off of it. Night and day difference between that and my DL1000. I'm extremely happy I did this.

Nice looking GS, glad you're happy with it.

Glad you're satisfied.  :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

But, just out of curiosity, how tall are you?
Maybe that's the reason DL was too much for you to handle.  :dunno_black:
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.
A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.
Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Congrads, it sounds like you made the right choice for YOU!!! :woohoo:

Enjoy yourself and change that chain

I'm 5'11 with a 30" (probably 29") inseam and yeah, that's exactly what it was. I felt like I was teetering all the time and yep...sure enough I eventually lowsided it going around an oil-slicked curve.

I've gotta get that crappy ass oil changed too. Ugh. They could've at least changed the oil before trading.

As a side note, I just pulled the countershaft/sprocket cover off to check for any signs of oil leaks from the chain being banjo string freaking tight and nothing to speak of stands out apart from all the brown "rust dust" from the chain and a bunch of road funk.

I'm gonna put some Castrol 10w-40 regular oil in it. I think it's called "Racing 4T". I've been using it in my KLR (20w-50 version) and DL1000. It's only 15 bucks for a 4L bottle which is over a gallon.
