On my way home from work the other day, I wento to brake and my back brake didn't engage nearly as soon as it normally does... like, 2 inches of extra play.  so I go to look at it today, thinking maybe it's low on fluid or something.  Here is what I find:

I take a closer look:

Seems to be missing a pin there on the pivot point.  Where can I get a replacement?  Why did this one come out?  If I throw a cat over my shoulder while riding my bike, is it kitty litter?

such are the mysteries that face me this evening.  I don't want to ride until I have it replaced, just in case I need the extra braking that provides.

Help?

Great news! I just saved a bundle on car insurance by switching to a motorcycle!

Isn't Richard the greatest?  He lives less than 100 yards from an unlocked shed with a GS500E in it, whose owner is halfway around the world, and he asks where he can get a replacement.

What a guy!   :thumb:

Richard, at least go LOOK at my bike, and see if the part looks like a specialty item or if it's just a common bit of hardware that you could get at Lowe's.

I didn't want to give your wife a heart attack by poking around in your backyard at 10pm! ;-)

Remember, Richard, all the parts you need are sitting in Kerry's back yard ;) A rear brake mounting pin here, a carb o-ring there, maybe even some assorted hoses and spark plugs.  All from a running bike, so you know those parts are good!  hehe... just don't mention me when the locak law enforcement comes around to talk to ya

I can just imagine Kerry coming back with his bike sitting on blocks with half the engine, the tank, and all the plastics missing...

Oh, and tip for next time.  Occasionally, I guess each time when lubing the chain, run around and check your fasteners for basic tightness... my heel guard almost came off, was missing a bolt and the other one was loose :(

Yes. Its kitty litter, but its also a lot of fun. Just don't take a picture of the act or your guilty of kitty porn too.
