I have a few long, multi-day rides planned for this summer and I was thinking about doing something about the stock seat. It doesn't jibe with my bum after an hour or more on the road. What replacements seats or upgrades have you all done to treat your hind quarters a little better?

I've been looking around too. Saw an oldschool photo of a couple of riders just using a piece of carpet thrown across the seat. It's a crude method and i haven't tried it yet, but it might be worth a shot.

I'm saving up for a seat from http://www.topsellerie.com

I have one of their tank covers, so I know they make a good product. Options for gel, raising or lowering, and heating. A bit pricy but could be worth it.

If you have a pre-2001 GS you can get a Corbin seat. There was also a factory gel seat.

A guy who used to work with us at he airplane shop, doing interiors...he also did car interiors and motorcycle seats....custom....nice....his bike had snakeskin seat.....cushion any way you want...expensive but not too expensive..

Maybe some local car upholstery guy in your area?

I'll have to check around to see if there are any nearby. Now that you mention it, my uncle builds hotrods and I never thought to ask him where he gets the interiors done. Thanks!

Jared on this board is an upholsterer.  He did a custom gel rear seat for my SV and is working on one for my '01 GS.

its funny seeing me at a red light now and then, sifting myself around or movin my junk to get compfy.  :cookoo:

padded bicycle shorts! much cheaper than a seat upgrade, and not permanent. I rode 5 hours straight on the highway with some and my butt didn't even feel it.

I would also like to recommend padded bicycle shorts. I wore them all the time when I raced motocross and they saved my a$$ literally. Sitting on my stock seat is like being on a couch by comparison to a dirtbike seat, so with a pair of padded shorts you will be good to go. I got mine for around 40 bucks.
My bike isn't leaking oil, it's just marking its territory.

I've done all the shifting around and readjusting my junk and all that too. I just want to be able to get on it and go without having to make sure I've got the long distance seat pad on or my bicycle shorts on which aren't real comfortable themselves. Although, I have noticed tighty whiteys or workout type underwear help in the "junk getting squished" area. The seat should be comfortable enough to take a long ride without any fuss. I'll look into the reupholstering because a new seat from that german company with gel was looking like 250 euros....that's a bit high for my liking. Not to mention having it shipped would probably be the other arm and leg! Thanks everyone!

Hmm, no junk issues here  :dunno_black:  :flipoff:

I'm pretty sure someone one here did it rather easily. Got a gel cushion from wal-mart some marine vinyl. Think it was done for less than $30.

I found that cutting off the "naughty place guard" helped the sore junk situation.

I'm not sure the original poster could even fit in your underwear...oh wait...I see what you meant now...never mind.
