I am possibly looking to buy this bike

It is a 2002 SV650 with 5,400 miles on it, it looks to be in very good condition and is said to come with a K&N filter, jet kit, rear seat cover, undertail kit, and a Devil high mount pipe installed. The owner is starting at $4,500 for a price but said he is willing to work on price, it books for $4,180. What do you guys think? Give me any opinions you might have, Thanks.

I'd say its a good deal as long as it hasnt been crashed. Why is seller selling it?

black is nice...

It has never been down at all, not sure why he is selling it, thats a good question Pablo.

Sorry to tell the seller this, but in my estimation, a bike that is not bone stock is NEVER worth book value.

Maybe the pipe is too loud for the buyer's taste.
It's been jetted, but was it jetted right?
Unless you have a hard-on for the seat cover and undertail, they're worth $0.

That's my take.

Can you actually go and take a look at it?  See what sort of job was done on the exhaust and undertail.  I think it's a nice bike!  :thumb:  I'd go work the guy down to stock value, just because you want a better deal on it.

As for gobstopper's opinion...  :?  The guy put work into a bike that made it look and perform better than stock.  As long as the mods aren't hack jobs, it enhances the value of the bike.  You're not buying the bike for historical value, you're buying it to have fun.

So, bargain hard, find out why the guy is selling (maybe he is saving his pennies for a Ducati or has the wife and kids now) and pay what you think the bike is worth to you :)

Gobs right though-added aftermarket does not usually add value to a bike. Bike still should be considered against the going rate in your area, not so much NADA or KBB. If it has a/m that you like then great but they're not always a bonus.

Yeah, that's true... I wouldn't increase the price because of aftermarket parts, but marking the value down because there's some aftermarket on it sounds wrong.  Unless you didn't want those parts in the first place, that is ;)

That makes all harleys worthless... whooo hooo I like this line of reasoning...
Anyway where the logic fails is that lots and lots of useless, fragile, ill conceived and just plain dumb crap made its way onto bikes... if the mods fix them yes its worth $$$ ... A GS rear suspension for example, or progressives for that matter, or jetting to 40/125 or ... list goes on... all are worth the money put into them... Just be reasonable about it... front suspension is $45, you put it in... mainly for your own good, so labor is not to be added... cos you are doing it to keep it from bottoming out, rear shock... same thing... jetting, better starts and warm ups ... these are all worth the cost of the parts (going ebay or Gstwin or other site rates... now new suzuki prices)... some cheap things like jetting would well be worth parts + some labor... cos parts are so cheap and the effect is so good. Somehting like a repaint job IMHO is worth less... cos why was it repainted... its very subjective... you might love purple... Anyway very few mods are worth the cost... most mods if done tastefully dont alter desirability enough to veer it off the general market value... some mods are so bad they destroy everyhting... That Der honk bike for example...
