Started doing my valves, stopped when I couldn't find a shim tool anywhere.

You can use two screwdrivers, if they have a tip between 6 and 6.5mm, then will work all right. See in the valve clearance check method thread, this post: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=58883.msg670596#msg670596
I can pop a shim in 30 seconds!  :woohoo:

She feels really flat between 4-5k, but from what I understand, that's natural on these bikes.  I need to pull the plugs and see if she's running lean/rich, since I haven't really got her fine tuned yet.  Homework first, bike second!

Here's a pic from yesterday:

Nice looking bike man! And my 97 does that too...between 4-5K it just acts like it's dead. It's because of the #37 pilot jets. Or did you replace those with #40's???

Mine seems to take forever and a year to warm up but once it does FINALLY warm up, that flat spot almost disappears.

I don't know, but to me it looks upside down. Seems it should be flipped over so the rain doesn't pour into the end.

Some of the parts on your bike look familiar  :icon_eek:

Theres two little drain holes in the bottom of the can :-D

Yea, your parts are holding up well, and I actually get a lot of compliments

adidasguy

OK. I give in. It just looks upside down, even though it goes that way  :cookoo:

Did you re-jet? Post a clip of it running!

Well the last few days I have been making a video on fixing my clutch cover oil leak so thats what I did.

Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Of coarse I did! About 6 months ago with the harley can.

22.5/65/145.

When I put the can on today, it seemed a little leaner than it was previously, so I gave it a shot and stuck some washers under the mids and main jets, seemed to run a lot better, but I think its time for some 70/155's. I'll get video of it running in the morning!

New Gold Chain, mirrors, rim tape, anti-vibe bar ends, and a bath. She's starting to come together. :thumb:

Got the parts bike running

Put the 04 back together and sold her to an old friend

Went and looked at the likely new moto addition to the family

And more wrenching tomorrow!

Started taking apart the parts/donor bike which will be the source for Phenix's motor. Now need to get rid of stuff like the fairings, gas tank, etc. Phenix got a brand new rear fender (see project section).
The donor bike's gas tank was nearly full. So all bikes had their tanks topped off  after draining the tank.

The "donor" parts bike has its wheels transplanted onto centuryghost's bike. The black rims replaced his white ones. Tires from the donor bike are really good. Centuryghost noticed the improvement in the ride. Also re-hung his exhaust for better clearance from the rear brake calipers. Oh, also put on a nice stator cover from a spare engine.
Yep - bike cave is up and running. What a great place to do all this work! We did a lot today.
Spare set of rims with crappy tires were put on the donor so I can still wheel it around until it is down to a bare frame.

Been a while since I last posted this thread, but since that time, I've done a fair amount of commuting with Taarna along I-5 from Mount Vernon to Bellingham. I've also installed new bar end mirrors from seamax, installed an SV650 throttle tube, and replaced my clutch and brake levers that were damaged in my second crash. The clutch lever replacement took some time because I broke my clutch switch during the installation of the new lever, bought a replacement switch from adidasguy, then got buried in homework. I finally got it done in time for a rainy long weekend.

The old levers:

Here's the most recent (and awful looking) shot I've got of the whole bike:

Nothing for the bike today, however I did pick up a set of Alpinestars Octane Riding Shoes.  So far I'm very satisfied.  :thumb:

Today I installed new LEDs in my instrument cluster to replace the stock ones.

Thanks to adidas for the diode reference picture. Simple to follow and works perfectly.

Silly me ordered only 1 green t5 so I went to jaycar to buy another one but they only stock red white and blue. I grabbed a white one and it gives the kinda color you would expect. A white light with a green tinge.

Between running to the neighbours for tools and running upstairs a million times to grab something I needed, not to mention the lengthy period of time it took to file down the t10 leds for the guages by scraping them against a brick wall, (yeh I did that)  it took me all bloody afternoon to finish this.
It was a learning experience and I had to improvise a few ways to get some things undone but all in all I feel awesome for getting it perfect first go :)

I dunno of its normal but with the t10s I got the 4 radially mounted LEDs were too wide to fit in the housing so that's why I had to file them down. Dunno if the rough lenses has affected the brightness but I'm satisfied.

74x fits into all year gauge indicators and are the same size as the original bulb (actually a little smaller). They are polarized like the T5 so you still need to do something to the turn signal and you just check each one before you plug it into the gauge housing.. If it doesnt light up you flip the bulb around. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fmini-wedge.html under Instrument Panel and Gauge LED Wedge Base bulbs 74-x ...

Note the LED in the bottom: the yellow base with one LED on the top and 4 around the side. It is also the one in the broken open gauge. That's the one to use in the gauges. Comes in all colors.
The one with the red base is similar, but has 9 LEDs: 1 on the top and 8 around the side -- that one is too tall for the gauges.
(The LEDs are the white square thingies)

SgtBatten

Thanks numus, I did buy t5/74 for the indicators and they work fine. I did the diode thing on the blinkers to get it working both ways.

I bought the wrong 5-led t10 as mine are not flat smd LEDs they are round and stick out to far radially. But easy fixed by scraping them on the wall for 10 mins each lol

I just found some 12 smd led t10s that are 2 on each side and 4 on top but no bigger than the ones you suggest Adidas.

Gonna test them out.
