I finally got some led lights to put under my tail and such. I've looked all over this thing for some install tips. I was thinking about just running them into a fuse. But I wanted to install a switch. Can one of you brilliant people help me?

What I did was add a fuse close to battery, SPST switch under seat, another easily accessed SPST switch on the fairing. When parked in public I would throw the switch under the seat to disable the switch on the outside. That way John Q Public couldn't turn on my Led's.

Trouble is they are illegal in just about all 50 states, so while you're fronting the funk at Starbucks, you might as well wire them up on a switch so you can remove the key, and go into Starbucks and order your latte. Because underlighting is only legal in parking lots.

I bought a bunch of their LED modules, a roll of wire, a junction box, and a switch from a site named oznium.com.  Ran my LED wires to the junction box, wired the switch on the negative wire (I think) between the battery and the junction box.  I didn't install a fuse, though.  Probably should put that on my to-do list.

I can't find anything in the Ohio Revised Code that specifically states anything about underbody lighting but I did find this about cowl and fender lighting:

Seems like color is the main issue. White and amber are ok. Anything else is up for interpretation.

Edit: I was also assuming with the relay that you'd still add a toggle so you don't have to run them all the time!

They are really referring to side marker lights.

Often the "underglow" is referred to as "ground effect" lighting - which is illegal in Washington.
Color is an issue for any lights. If you are posing, you can do whatever you want. As soon as you enter the road, you must obey the law.
Blue is illegal - police color. Green is fire chief color. Red: obvious.

Suzi is legal. She was blue and got a slap on the wrist so all lights are white. Lights are inside the cowlings and do not project onto the roadway. Side marker/turn signals are legal as long as not blue, green or red.

If in doubt, as a cop.
This was given to me by the Seattle Police - a very friendly motorcycle cop.

Pretty much identical to Aussie State laws as well

Actually, numerous states allow it, as long as it is not flashing.  Many limit color choice, and a few outlaw it completely. 

Typically, southern states are more open to it than northern states.  I venture to say within 5 years they will be outlawed in the majority of states.

I was under the impression that "neon" lighting on a motorcycle was not illegal compared to a car because it makes you more visible at night as long as its not red or blue. Maybe it's just here say but I'm not sure. 

As a former police officer in MN, you can have lights on a motorcycle but there are a few things that you have to look at.
1. you can only have so many lights on your vehicle facing forward, 6 is the number in MN.
2. you can't have white light projecting to the rear, thats the color white.
3. you cant have any but yellow the pulse or flash, but it needs to be used for emergencies, or for a "warning" ie. hazard lights.
4. you can have lights on that are different colors, i have seen purple used as a front facing light, without problems.
I haven't been a cop for two years so it can change, best bet it to as a state trooper in your state for the updated law, most will tell you, or find out for you, if you can get something in writing it would be better so you can show a police officer if you get pulled over, the laws are open to interpretation by the individual cop so what one says might not be the same as how another will enforce the law. i say trooper because they do more with traffic laws then any other cop.

You can have ground effect lights in Fl. It just cannot be Blue, Red, or Amber. Actually, you can run red as long as you  an EMT-B or higher.

I saw some tonight and they looked pretty nice on the bike. I was thinking some soft white ones might look good on Flick.

This is just a quick list that doesn't specifically say it is outlawed and a few give regs. I stopped at #10 because I don't have time to do all 50 states. Arizona, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, Maine, Maryland,Minnesota,Florida, Missouri, Nevada
