I was doing 15-20 through a patch of leaves when an oncoming car turned across my lane and left me about 8-10 eet to stop. Somehow I managed to not t-bone the car, but I did go down.

I yelled "are you f%$king kidding me?" to which the passenger responds "relax bro_ it was an accident" and the driver chimes in "yeah I was just pulling into my driveway" and they walk inside, showing no guilt or concern for my health.

called the cops, had the report filed. They said I was doing 60....through a dark neighborhood in leaves. I pointed out my 10 foot slide mark.

the cop told me it was technically a one vehicle accidentbecause I didn't hit her.

needless to say, I'm pissed. There's a bit more to it but I'm on a phone and that's the main idea

In the end the most important piece of safety gear is the thing you put inside your helmet.

I tried starting it again. Already ordered some new spark plugs. Hopefully the bike will start after that.
Poor thing has been sitting for too long :(

I hate it when they say "technically.....". Like you always hear about corporate crooks that steal millions and ruin the live of thousands of people "While what he did was not right, he didn't break any laws so there is nothing we can do".

Worth having your insurance company go after then for running you off the road (which is what it was - technically) or was the damage minor?

Lessons learned: Go slow in wet leaves (I HATE wet leaves) and cagers are idiots.

Hope the bike is OK.

the thin "suzuki" badge popped off of my engine cover, leaving a small opening...this isn't all the way too the motor or anything, is it okay to ride it this way?

the case is intact. The thin badge popped off

I'm assuming you're talking about the little sticker? It's about $15 from Suzuki themselves. Get it covered up though either way, you don't want water getting in there. That's where the pickup is if I'm not mistaken, you don't want that shorting out/rusting.
When in doubt, empty the magazine.

I actually ended up using copper gasket maker to secure the original back on.  Looks like shaZam!.

....and people wonder why I want to keep a "attitude adjusting device" (crowbar) strapped to the bike. People make me angry enough when I'm in the car...honestly! Is it me or are people getting worse and worse at simple driving tasks every year?

Looks like trey will have a new home after junior is fixed. Shook hands on a deal with mechanic friend at west Seattle bowl. He will stay in west Seattle.

When selling a bike to someone you've known for over 15 years and he works down the street so I can see Trey every day, money is not an issue. I think you understand - when you sell something you love to someone who is a friend that you know will take good care of it, that's more important.

I was surprised at the number of people  interested in buying Trey. Sorry to those who didn't get him. In the end, friends take priority. I hope those who wanted him understand.

In a week or two we'll spend a day and change pegs, bars and whatever to make Trey HIS bike for his daily commute to the bowling alley just down the street from me.

Unfortunately there was some communication errors with other people interested in him and they decided no.
So when a friend at the bowling alley said "I'll take him - I want him - I'll take care of him" well, friends come first.
