Thanks, I really like riding it...it was never a good seller for Yamaha and Yamaha USA never imported it, so Canada only   Maybe they figured Buell had that market owned down there?

When I first made the leap to this from the GS500, it scared the crap out of me...the power difference is HUGE but you do get used to it...it's about 150lbs heavier, has 1670cc Vtwin and 5L smaller tank...go figure?!?

But man is the torque ever awesome...even in 5th gear, it just pulls...and it has quite a bit more leg room, a wider saddle which is shaped better too.  The riding position is almost identical (except for the leg room), so it was familiar...I think I will be looking for some wind protection for when I go on longer rides, but around town the naked bike is nice...and the sound it makes, I just love it  :icon_twisted:

Anyway, thanks for the comment...

Later.

Hmmm, I never knew that they never came to the US.  There is one riding around down here in south GA.  He must have really wanted it!

Sweet ride btw.  Really love the style.

Well, I finally made some time to continue working on my bike...

Last night I started on assembly, but couldn't get the wheel bearings to properly seat...here's a few pics...

:thumb:

So...what do you think of the blue & flat black??

Later.
Got a question for you, did you check the head on the bike?, the steering head, check the paint for any wrinkles or signs of distress that was a pretty harsh impact. but shes close to being back together. Imho blue and flat ( or matte) black is a pretty good combo. but flat black shows dirt/dust easily lol

Yama...you're dead on about the black...but when clean, it looks great...

I did check the steering head, the bearings need replacing but no wrinkles or cracks...but now my daughter has started to ride with me and the MT-01 isn't the right bike for two up...wifey is even thinking of joining me now and her butt is a little bigger than my 13yo daughters...something with more comfort will have to find it's way into the garage...

Very Awesome! Color scheme turned out Grand!! Happy riding!

madjak30

Thanks!  I really like it...but I am going to try to make a custom bracket to add some hard luggage tucked slightly beneath the exhaust and a small windshield for touring...just have to come up with a cure for the small fuel tank...either carry extra, or have the tank customized a bit to increase the capacity...it's still a blast to ride, and the sound is awesome!

Took a big step this year...

Got her all geared up and now I have a riding buddy...she loves riding with Dad!

trinacria

the bike is freakin awsome, and good work too

madjak30

I still may go with a sport touring bike, but for now, the MT-01 is going to have to do...it is still a blast to ride, but the distances that you can cover are quite short for a touring bike!!

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think putting luggage on a sport bike makes it sport touring, doesn't it have alot more to do with the riding position then the bike? like a sport touring allows for both sport and relaxed riding styles but they tend to be more protected like a touring.
I see this as more of  a sport touring
I believe that this bike is the same yamaha you have, so that would be a perfect example of what you can do with it

This could be a little bit questionable because of the windshield, but i think the seats are too touring-like to just be a sports bike

ooh white,...so pretty,.....me like

From wikipedia... "A Sport touring motorcycle is a type of motorcycle that blends the performance of a sport bike with the long-distance capabilities of a touring motorcycle, while providing comfort and relative safety to the rider."
Engine designs are usually modified from their sport bike origins, the aim being improved mid-range torque rather than peak horsepower
A frame that is usually designed from scratch to provide a more upright, less aggressive riding position ("all day comfort").

This is the 919. An engine that has been retuned for more mid range. Upright riding position for all day comfort. While still having great performance. A Large tank (19.5 liters) means I can go 300kms before needing to refill.

The only difference between what might be considered a more traditional Sport Tourer such as the FJR1300 is the fairing.

But BMWs Sport Tourer the 800ST has a more aggressive riding position than their f800R sport bike. So BMW are being somewhat cheeky calling it one.

In Aust, GS500Fs are sold under the Sport Tourer category for sales figure calculations.

Okay, i guess i was off. That's some good info though! maybe i was just seeing what i like in a sport touring bike.

I never would have guessed the gs500F was a sport touring, although it does fit both the wikipedia and my version of what a sport touring is!

SAFE-T

It's not considered an essential element for a sport-touring bike, but a fairing makes a lot of difference if you ride longer distances.

If that matters to you, that is.  ;)

I deliberately chose naked bikes because I dislike fairings. I will quite happily do 300 miles just for lunch, two days in a row. I have no issues or feel the need for protection from the wind with a fairing.

Maybe try doing 300 miles for lunch for 10-14days in a row through high heat, high wind, heavy rain and cold weather. Gets a little old amazingly fast.

I agree, riding in 40* with wind blowing get old on a naked bike.
