Almost 21! About time to buy a pistol before Obama takes them all away. I live in Washington State, Renton to be exact. I ride any time unless its pouring down rain or snow. Been in the Marines for a year and a half now, Rah!
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Hey, I'm Joshua and have been living in Las Vegas for the past 7 years (originally from Kansas). I travel overseas frequently and every time I do I tell myself how much I need a motorcycle. This year that dream finally came true ;)

Hube from Metro Atlanta area. 58. I have a 2007 GS500F which as it turns out is THE perfect bike for me at this stage in my life. You might say I have some "issues" physically. Last bike was a Suzuki DL1000. It got to be too much for me to manage when it came to what used to be small stuff, like moving it around in the garage and such. Just too darned heavy. The bike's height made the center of gravity feel much higher than it actually was, if that makes sense? Bottom line, after dropping it in the driveway going less than 1mph 3 or 4 times in less than a year and not dropping any bike that many times in the previous *twenty* years? Seemed like a change was needed.

Truly a great "Jack of all trades" motorcycle though. Unbelievable grunt pulling uphill in the mountains, loaded, even two-up the powerband was so broad shifting was almost like an afterthought sometimes! And it could eat up highway miles with the best of them once I did some mods to make it more comfortable.

Oh, so sorry, this is the *GS500* forum, isn't it! :-)

Anyway. Great to be here, I've mostly lurked in the past year. (Making up for that now it would seem!) Had a problem with the starter motor clutch malfunctioning a few months ago....turned out the crankshaft end bolt had backed out which caused the clutch mechanism to slip. It was a straightforward and simple diagnosis/fix with zero parts cost, just a bit of labor. AdidasGuy and a couple of others gave useful info/tips which were very helpful. I've been "wrenching" my own bikes and cars since age 15. When it comes to a machine that you are not yet fully acquainted with it's a no-brainer to listen to people who already ARE "acquainted", experienced, etc.  Motorcyclists have a long history of helping each other out in times of need. There are always people who are willing to go "above and beyond". I see a lot of that done here.

Obviously this bike has many knowledgeable, experienced, owner/riders who are quite loyal. That's very encouraging. Getting a glimpse of a few internals doing the starter motor clutch job was reassuring as well. The engine has 21K +/- and there was *no* discernible wear on any of the moving parts I inspected. I know at least one of the bike's previous owners apparently rode the bike pretty hard on a regular basis. I've done the valve check/inspection and saw nothing there to raise any concerns either. All in all, I'm a happy guy! Good solid motor, Suzuki has a reputation for that. Great bike, nice folks!

Name is Phill.
I live in Los Angeles.
I'm a photographer.
I ride a 91 gs500.
It's a work I'm progress. Just put the K&N air pod and a 08 R6 muffler and I'm loving this bike. I like the idea of being in a smaller bike with a mean profile.

Welcome Blue! ... Don't feel bad about being from Vancouver ... Everyone has to be from somewhere!  ;) ... There's a special catchup class with us Aussies over in Last Poster Wins ... The local Deity level mod/admin around here is called John ... He likes drag racing bikes ... Well ... Riding his bike wearing a bikini ... Possibly a frock too!! .. Please refer any and all complaints DIRECTLY to him via Private Message... But make sure to USE ALL CAPITALS ... The poor old bastard is nearly blind for reading text purposes ... Probably shouldn't even be riding still .... But the collective 'we' of this board just don't have the heart to turn him into the DMV .. Riding and this board is all he has left really...

Anyway.. Jump in and tell your story and bike info whenever you feel the urge...

:D

Excellent choice Rob. I'd need to count up and/or put in my sig line the # of bikes owned since uhm, 1971. Yes I think I will do that! "A bunch" All signs suggest this wonderful "little" GS500 (not a criticism!) will be the last bike I will own. Ironic, my first "real" street-only motorcycle was a very used old CB450 Honda. Traded a 66 Plymouth Valiant for it. One of several "hundred dollar cars" I owned. Ah, another of my stories.

Enjoy the bike and the company! People have been real nice to me here, in spite of being an "old fart" windbag!

Regards,
Hube

Hey Guys,

my name is Tyler. Currently a Community College Student. I am in Northern California and am trying to find other GS riders up here. Shoot me a message if you're close!

I recently acquired my license and my first motorcycle, a 2005 GS500F. It has a lot of miles and a lot of abuse, but I took on the challenge as I am always up for DIY fixes. This bike has taught me a lot so far. In the first month I had it I did more maintenance work than I ever touched my cars engine (it's almost 20 years old), with still a lot more to go!  :2guns:

I'm been browsing this site a lot recently and I love asking questions, so be prepared.

Hey guys, my name is branden. I have a 06 gs500f. I'm a college student right now, hopefully graduating soon. But I've owned my bike for 3 years. I do all maintenance myself. I love working on it. I would love to do some mods, but I'm a broke college student haha. I've been looking around the last few weeks and I seem some things that are interesting and cool. I will definately be looking around more. Oh and I almost forgot, I'm from the IE in so cal.

New to the forums, new rider, and know little about bikes although I'm learning fast and they make sense since I have a Mechanical Engineering degree.  ;)

I'm 30 yrs old in the San Francisco Bay Area California and work for myself as a web designer.

I'm a quick learner, love extreme sports and pick up any kind of sport tremendously fast, and can't believe I didn't buy a motorcycle sooner. I've wanted to for years, but didn't want to own more than a car and have to pay insurance.  Now I get the riding itch if I don't ride in a week. :)  I'm hooked, I'm in it for the long haul!

I've owned my 2007 GS500 for about 3 months now and love it. I've seen a whole lot of other bikes now and I'm so glad I have a GS500 as a first bike!

I live in Seattle.  Bought my 99 last May from the second owner.  Only had about 7500 miles on it and I only had to replace the tires (original and cracking), bars (just a wee bit bent) and grips.  I've changed the turn signals, repainted the exhaust, added a screen and trimmed down the fender.  It's in great shape and I love it.   I use it as a commuter and sport-tourer; it's been a great machine.

I'm sure I chased you last summer and lost you at a light turning left off of California in the Junction.
Some times did you part at the soccer field on Delridge? I remember seeing it there but didn't have a card to leave on the bike to introduce myself.
