I already posted this on the fb group so I hope this isn't overkill by posting the link here as well.

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/cease-funding-motorcycle-only-checkpoints-through-nhtsa-and-other-federal-agencies/lDH0YB1N

Content of the link:
Cease the funding of motorcycle-only checkpoints through the NHTSA and other federal agencies.

State and local governments have begun to implement motorcycle-only checkpoints that unfairly target motorcyclists for inspection by law enforcement officers.

Many of these motorcycle-only checkpoints are funded by grants given by the federal government, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

This petition calls for the cessation of the NHTSA's direct and indirect funding of the motorcycle-only checkpoints through its grants and other measures, and asks that the laws for vehicle conformity and passenger safety be applied equally to motorcycles and automobiles alike.

Wow, what a joke.  Seems unconstitutional to me. Newbie rider here so I haven't even heard of this until now.

I couldn't find any articles mentioning any statistics about motorcycle accidents which had non-legal equipment, which would be the most obvious justification for such a law.  They just cite the number of non-legal equipment they find at the checkpoints they have done, which tells nothing.

Anyway, the link you gave says "asks that the laws for vehicle conformity and passenger safety be applied equally to motorcycles and automobiles alike."    I don't agree with either safety check unless there's a very serious problem with unsafe vehicles causing accidents.

Luckily it looks like California passed a ban on any checkpoints like that, so at least I'm fine here in California.

You could still sign it for the poor b@stards like me in Pennsylvania.   ;)   ...Or for yourself if for some reason you would ever move to another state that did not passed a ban.

if/when you encounter one, put up your own COP BLOCK with signs and information about avoiding nazi style checkpoints, 1/2 a mile before the check point. it's legal, it's your right.

i'd have a camera rolling too, in case any piggies wanted to rumble. is filiming public servants (that's what they are SUPPOSED TO BE) even legal there anymore ?

Yeah I've seen videos on youtube of people doing that, it's true it's legal to do that and I'll have to give it a try someday.

And yes, it's legal to film them too. That doesn't mean that can't confiscate it and erase it if they want to, it's your word against theirs.
