What did you use to clean headers? Mine on my bike are all discolored from heat and wanna polish them but dont want to damage, was thinking scotchbrite but its such a thin metal didnt want to thin it anymore.

Janx101

a scotchbrite/brillo/steel wool/scourer by hand is not going to remove metal enough to hole out your headers ... unless you have ADHD/OCD, are on PCP and have arms like Arnie!! ..

if using a grinder with a sanding flap disk thingy and rough enough grit i think it would be possible??...

but by hand? ... nah  :D

Finally got rid of the last of the purple and painted the front fender, also put on a tank pad. Tried to find something that didn't look all "bro", have a dragon on it and/or did not have a carbon fiber finish (carbon fiber dragon?), ended up with a glossy black one but it still has a lame pattern. Now I can lean forward and not get all worried about scratching the paint and just enjoy the ride.

Also totally blew it when I was on my way to work and went right through a red light. I was distracted by my modular helmet and was trying to lock it down and way under braked for the upcoming right turn. Locked up the rear halfway though the intersection before I got back on it and just went straight through. Good thing it was 5am and traffic was minimal. Had to pull over and let the guy that was on the other side get down the road a bit before I continued on because I felt like a newb. It only takes a second of distraction to trash your bike and yourself...   :embarrassed:

What did you use to clean headers?

Have a look on the wiki, under restoration you'll find an item on rusty headers, written by Twisted.
Very helpful!

And yes, Janx: I love my bike

@Calpantera: modular helmets: never try opening/closing a modular helmet while riding.
That's just asking for trouble.   :nono:

GSBRY

I removed the rear rim/tire and also rear brake pads.  Airbox was also removed to make room for K&N lunchbox.

I've only done 500 km on my trusty Blue Midget, but something was already bugging me  >:(

Around 4 / 4.5k RPM my windshield started to buzz / rattle.
Wanted to ask about this yesterday, but my past experience on forums told me to use the search function first...

Search query for rattle: 631 hits!  (granted, about a third are on 'rattle cans', but still...)
Query for buzz: 253 hits.  Very reassuring  :icon_mrgreen:

A few people suggested something I'd thought of myself:
Loosened the three plastic screw on top of the shield,
slid a small piece of rubber underneath (inside of bicycle tire), tightened back up.

Bye bye buzz.  :thumb:

got the same buzz... but from 4000-6500 ... keep reminding myself to sort it out with the rubber insert plan... but.... oh look butterfly!!!

They were this brand and style. although I'm not sure if the ones in the link are the LED or bulb version. I got mine in person.

Probably has resistor built in. I'd avoid non-DOT parts. If your state has inspection, you could get dinged. If you have an accident and someone said they couldn't see your turn signal, lawyers could get pissy if the find they are not DOT approved. Just a bit of protection just-in-case.
