Checked the oil and drained the breather catch tank all set for a ride in the morning if it's not pouring with rain...

checked tire pressures, fiancee brought it to my attention that her SIX YEAR OLD TIRES are wearing oddly (quite the overlook on my part, if i do say so myself :( ), changed the oil and filter for the first time and replaced with a FRAM filter and AMSoil full synthetic, then went for  a test ride. got back and ordered new michelin pilot activs front and rear.

the fiancee informed me that the change to AMSoil is well worth it. shifting is butter smooth and the ride is much smoother.

After a full day of work, BrianRC rode with me to the Metro Market to get some dinner at their deli.
this was BrianRC's first real ride on Quinn. We did a LOT today. He will give all the details in the build thread.

It was a very satisfying day.

Oooh boy its a long one!
Adidasguy and I shot how to videos on how to change out the chain and rear brakes and covered a lot of this stuff today:

New chain
Front and rear sprockets
upgraded to rear stainless steel brake line
replaced rear set (all of it really, including the reservoir)
New rear disc

Rear brakes work now! :icon_mrgreen:

Cleaned the swing arm (not too bad)
Re-installed the rear fender
wired in the rear signals
Put bulbs in the turn signals (so that's why those didn't work)

Went for my FIRST RIDE ON MY NEW BIKE! :woohoo:
First rookie mistake : cleaned seat, used a detailing spray AKA WAX! Will definitely never do that again! :icon_eek:

Ate dinner and then put together gauge cluster with LED lights and installed it
Put new headlight bezel on (was all scraped up)

Still a bit of things to do but I can ride now!

Hahahaha I hope you weren't sitting there for hours tracing down wires and stuff.
When in doubt, empty the magazine.

Put a bit over 230km's on her Saturday... nice ride to Woodford, down past Somerset Dam and up over Mt Glorious. Showers held off the whole way until turning into my street  :thumb:

I was having some lean surging at around 6k rpm, so I decided to do a couple things to try to alleviate it today.  First, I suspected that my gas cap vent was gummed up, so I followed ben2go's thread about cleaning and greasing it.

Then I put some seafoam in the tank.  I also fed a little bit of seafoam slowly through the carb breather with the bike idling.  When the rpms started to drop I stopped pouring.  Then I revved it a little bit.  It didn't want to rev past 4k with the seafoam, and I got the expected white smoke from the exhaust (due to cleaning the top end with the seafoam).  After a little while of that, I drained the carbs of the seafoam gas mixture.

Results?  I don't know which one did it, but the bike ran perfect after that.  I took about a 45 mile ride with the wife on the back and got 6 more pictures for The Pace E2E Rally.

Left for PA on Friday, ~300 mile ride. Replaced the head gasket and cleaned out the carbon while I was there. Looked to be a bit much carbon so I leaned the main some. Old head gasket (although previously reused) seemed perfect. Rattle noise is still there. I suppose I'll just live with it, as much as it bothers me and probably kills the resale value  :icon_sad:

Weather was great though. Finally warming up. It's nice being able to go on trips without worrying about snow.

18t sprocket definitely helps keep the oil in the engine on long high speed trips.

What's the purple bike there?

That's an 84 or 85 (can't remember the year) Katana 750 pop up minus the pop up headlight cowl...

I picked my bike up off the road today after getting rear ended... fortunately minimal damage, mainly just a cracked rear guard and bent tail light bracket. Tail and brake light still work so still rideable, but now need to go through insurance crap and get it sorted...

Oh crap no Pete that's no good mate. Your having a rough bit of luck with that ole GS
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Janx101

Crikey Pete!!! ... That's 'lucky' ...  You not injured eh?! ... To get rear ended and minimal damage is a win in a way!!

That sucks, but it sounds like you're at least not hurt too bad. Good luck with insurance and fixing it up.

Replaced the signal generator, got the bike up and running again. Got some new handlebars on order to replace the ever so slightly bent ones. And while I was replacing the signal generator, I managed to break the head off the oil light ground screw, which is now temporarily grounded to the frame. I damaged the switch trying to extract the screw, so until I change the oil and replace the switch, my oil light will be lit up.

And today I'm going for my first ride since I lowsided it down last year. Woohoo!

Got more parts - thanks to Piresito! He bought them from Germany, had them shipped to him in Portugal and then shipped them on to me.

Super!

  :woohoo:   :woohoo:   :woohoo:
