Hopefully I can have the funds soon for this piece as I really need to set up a new rearset for my GS, Quick question: did you use the GSXR link acceptor on the clutch?
No more bikes :(

Do you mean the shift rod adapter like in the second picture in this thread? http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=61148.0

If so yes, I used that piece. It is good to get a rearset with the complete linkage so you get the LH M6 nut required. Not too easy to find in the US.

Gs500_Rugger

Yes, thanks, thats exactly what I meant, its name escaped me. Ok, I'm having some trouble finding a full sets of rearsets for a gsxr and I'm trying to stay away from buying aftermarket ones like woodcraft. Trying to keep my project as cheap as I can for good quality stuff.

But I digress, thanks for the info, hopefully I can find the rearset so I can come back and pick up the plates from you.

You can cut the stock pedal length, drill a hole and add a pin. Then use a spherical rod end (but I cannot remember which side of the linkage is LH thread)

I got mine painted and had a chance to mount them today. The reason I asked was because Im using GSXR 1100 rear sets and I ran into several small issues. The holes in the plates didnt quite line up with the rear sets. Barely off but enough to there I had to take my dremel and a carbide bit to slightly open the holes in my rear sets to be able to put a screw through them. Then, the bolts that came with them didnt want to sit down in the holes in the rear sets before they were slightly elongated so being I had some extra OEM rear sets bolts (those with the huge heads), I used them to cover the areas the smaller ones did not. Lastly, seems in my case the linkage rod could have been a bit longer to get more threads in each end. To get the shifter aligned so it would shift up/down, I had maybe 2-3 threads on each end. Anything more and the bottom of the linkage on the left side rear set would hit the rear set and not allow enough movement to shift. Again, with my dremel I had to slightly notch an area on the rear set and linkage so allow it to move more and get more threads. Seems to work for now.
I will post pics later

Im guessing either my issue is because of my GSXR 1100 rear sets or the linkage rod is too short. Either way, as it is now, the rod is definitely to short. You can see the angle of the foot shifter from where it is supposed to be versus where mine is at.

First pic is Mitch79's and the second pic is mine

hrrrm.. wonder.... are dummy bolts/extenders available?... i mean.. same size thread as rod to go into original point on shifter and gearbox lever.. but with maybe 1" barrel of bolt extension to the head which is tapped for the rod thread... ?? .. one of those on each end...

yeah its a bit more stuffing about and an 'extra' bit to 'go wrong' ... but doable?

weedahoe

Well to be clear, I know my issue is my rear sets are different than the ones originally used in this thread.

With that being said, longer rods are avail but I'm short on time for bike/completion so I cut my rod in half, threaded each end with a 1/4-20 die and used 1.5" long 1/4-20 standoff to extend my rod.

Much easier your way! :thumb:

Yea sounds like the issue is the different year of rearsets. I used a GSXR600 for the left and 1000 for the right and didnt have issues with mine.

The rods are pretty cheap if you need a longer version, I got them here:
http://www.midwestcontrol.com/series.php?id=84

Original size of the rods I included was 250mm
They have metric turnbuckles too.

Thanks for the info. After comparing the different rear sets, Im sure thats what it was also. Here is what I have now and everything works as it should.

A word of wisdom though, if the threaded rod is on the top of the trans spline (like in my pic) then the gear shift is normal (1D, N, 2U, 3U, 4U, 5U, 6U). But if you put it on the bottom it is then backwards (1U, N, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D)
