Hey everyone,

So at the beginning of the semester my roommate and I purchased this nice glass table and chair set 50/50 for $60. Now this table is easily worth $200, we got it for such a bargain because the girls who were moving out needed to sell it and waited until the last day, so we pretty much got to name our price.

With the end of the semester approaching, my roommate offers me $30 to buy me out and he will take the table. I don't particularly want the table, but I know it is worth more that $60, so I feel that I would be at a loss to give up my share of the table for $30. I told him that I wouldn't be happy with $30, to which he replied "we only paid $60". I'm thinking since he won't give me more than $30, the most fair way to do this is to sell it on craigslist and split the proceeds.

What do you guys recommend that I do?

maybe it is worth more than 60 USED. that aside is it worth it to spend time waiting for it to sell?, sure try on CL or even ebay. get the most you can. remembering it is used. dont expect retail. but sure. shoot high then split. if not, then take the 30. If you can get more, then by all means go for it.

you could do that but most likely someone will low ball you there and you will end up with less because time will run out and just get what you can. But who knows someone could offer you $500 LOL. Kinda hard to argue about imaginary gains. As they say one in the hand is worth two in the bushel.

I guess to me, it would depend on whether or not I want to continue to have a friendly relationship with this person. I see both your points. But, who's to say how much it would actually sell for if listed on CL. Maybe you'd only get $80? Then you make another $10 each. Unless you never plan to see/talk to this guy again, I'd let him buy you out at the $30 you paid for your share.

Here are some ideas:

1.Take a baseball bat to that table and tell him to never question you again.
2. Give it to a hot chick.
3. Give it to one of your roommates enemies.
4. Staple a cat to it and give it to roommate for free.
5. Take a baseball bat to it. (my 1st choice).

i'd take the $30 ... whats that.. 2 tanks of fuel?... tank and a half?... in the bike?

if you feel that you are being ripped off taking 30 bucks.... go postal!!  .. dump a load of itching powder in his clothing box just as he is moving!!

Offer him $30 to buy it and see what he says. If he wants more, offer it back to him for what he just said it's worth. If he agrees to it, and it's worth more like you think, turn around and sell it.

I was trying to make a point. What does "tard" mean when one is "Tard Farmed"? Is it a reference to someone how is mentally disabled? I mean, it's right out there for everyone to see. Yet posts that some may find offensive get TARD FARMED!

I am Sorry, I'm just getting a little miffed. I'm just  guy that believes one should be able to say what they want without fear of offending people. I also believe an owner of a website has the right to censor (although I would not censor unless it laws where broken). When people say things that I don't agree with I just let it slide. WHY is this even a question?

Who bloody cares if you give him $30 and he goes and sells it for $150? So friggin what man? You got your money back. Move on. Sheesh.  Now you need motorcycle forum approval over a $60 table. Man, hate to see if you needed to make a real decision. OMG......................

If you put in $30 bucks with him, then it's only fair that he offer $30 bucks to buy it out. You're not losing anything.

With the exception of the opportunity cost of what it could actually sell for. I could walk away with $75 easily if we sell it on the open market.

Settle it like an adult which is what I presume you are. If you can't handle that, at least deal with it in a manly way...good'ol fisticuffs.
