I detest 'social' situations where strangers are thrust into each other's 'space' and forced to interact - it's all so fake (eg. going to Bob's party and the only person you know is Bob and are now forced to mingle with a bunch of people playing stupid "what do you do for a living" small talk games).

I'd rather talk to someone in a 'get to know more about you' kinda way when it occurs through happenstance. It's like an adventure that way.  :thumb:

There's nothing like a bit of social awkwardness to keep you on your toes

Pass... either something is in common or not... if it's not... move on!

At least we all have something in common here... LPW! Oh, and a love for all things GS of course...  :thumb:

Apparently Sunday now is some late light rain... sounds more promising but we'll see... shall be packing the rain suit regardless...

So this girl that I have not spoken to since 1983 contacted me on FB.  I was 7 then.  Oddly, I remember her.

Not used to these things.  I guess it's normal in the year of our Lord 2013.

Were you friends with her?

jestercinti

Yes.  Grew up together from birth to about 1983 or 1984 I think then moved away.  I have a near-photographic memory with certain things, so I knew who it was immediately.

Forecast still looking ok for tomorrow  :thumb:

Might see if I can get time to do a spit and polish today, that will guarantee rain

Yo Jester... Now this is interesting.
One acquaintance, once established (or re-established) as is the case here, often leads to many other additional acquaintances.
May the floodgates now open upon you Sir.  :thumb:

Agreed Mister. However...
When I'm thrust into one of those situations (usually via my dear wife), I look forward to telling people that I'm a professional idiot that works for the railroad. I then expound, telling them that I love my job and the rest of the pin-headed morons I work with in the Electrical Engineering Dept.
I'm always most comfortable with the truth rather than a bullsh!t story about my <cough-cough> wonderful career.

Back to you LPW.

I wish it was that easy EJ... I tell people I work in IT... and that's where the conversation stops... unless you speak with someone else in IT then game over... hard to explain to Joe Blow that I work on back end infrastructure rather than desktops and that when they ask me about something on their PC I'll look at them blankly and say NFI...  :dunno_black:

That's what Facebook is perfect for. One if my first friends was my girlfriend from when I was 6 years old she was my bestie.

Jester: Quick question.... you set up a FB account and nek minute, BAM, she's requesting friendship? If so, she must have been searching for you at Just the right time. Synchronicity my friend.

Pete, don't tell them that mumbo jumbo. A confused mind says "no" and they fog over. Tell them you repair broken circuit boards for ASIO and saying anything more will have you both in jail  :thumb:

Ej, one guy at work tells people he works as a laborer in a furniture factory  :thumb: :thumb:

Pete (yeah I know I already addressed you once in this post).... stop obsessing over the darn forecast. The only half decent one is the one issued at 4:50am on the day - and even that is wrong often, but it's really the only one you should pay any attention to. I'd say, view the radar yourself and make your own judgement. You'll be right as often as they are.

Gotya Mister, never thought about the ASIO response... hmmmm... haha

As for the forecast yeah I really should learn to ignore it until the day, just damn frustrating that it seems like every ride I organise has ended up rather damp in recent times... meh I'll get over it... in fact I already am! Haha

I'm going regardless of the forecast anyway... have rain suit... will ride  :thumb:
