APE cam chain tensioner leaking through center bolt

I put an APE cam chain tensioner on my son's 05 GS500 (00 engine) a little while ago after the original one died. There was some leaking issues as the mechanic put the gasket on wrong. I took it off and my son made a new gasket from gasket making material - he works as a car mechanic. That didn't last too long so I put an oem gasket I found I had on it a couple of weeks ago.

I noticed oil leaking again and when I took the carbs off this morning to get a good look at it I noticed there is no oil leaking around the edge of the tensioner but oil is coming out at the nut where the center, tensioning, bolt is. What can I do to fix this? Can it be fixed without removing the tensioner itself? If I remove the tensioner is much chance to salvage the gasket?

Yesterday I bought some Ford RTV Silicone Sealant, which the people at my son's car repair shop say is the best gasket making stuff around.

Any thoughts on the best way to fix this issue?

this post is really old. but my questions are; did you fix it? does it work well? and can I have the link for the cam tensioner that you bought(more to the point one that will fit the gs)

thanks

This is the cam chain tensioner in question - http://gszone.biz/tensioners.html  (might find it on ebay or elsewhere) and yes, it now works well. I didn't know about the plug adjuster mentioned by adidasguy, I found a rubber washer in my garage that fit over the bolt and got that to work.

Good luck with your repairs.....

APE tensioners are not the best, the internet is full of people complaining about their reliability. They cant give them away here in the UK  :dunno_black:

Search on google for "APE camchain tensioner leaking"

dgyver

I have used them on all of my builds and never had any leaks.  :dunno_black:
Common sense in not very common.
