Installed .90 Sonic springs & changed fork oil, installed chuck81's stainless fork brace & stator cover, snapped some pics of the bike in general. Pics are posted over in my build thread.

Also noticed that cracks have appeared inside the tread on both front & rear tires. I swear they weren't there when I checked last weekend...anyway, ordered some Sport Demons (110/70-17, 140/70-17) as replacements. Should be here toward the end of the week.
It seems it has become necessary to qualify my posts:
I am/am not trying to start an argument. This post is/is not intended to be a personal attack. I am/am not merely attempting to present a different viewpoint.

Let post this in the right thread this time..

Finally got to take her on the first ride outside the neighborhood today!!

Old Mechanic

Pulled the front fork assemblies and took them to the dealer for seal replacement. They finished them and I put them back in the bike. I think I have most of the issues dealt with for now. Topped the tank off today and got 62.48 MPG, so I think I will leave the carbs alone and just ride it for a while. Currently I am painting the center of the front handlebars where the keys scratched the paint off. I might have to adjust the chain a little more but no hurry there. I am still riding on reserve since the petcock does not like to supply enough fuel in the on position. I'll fiddle with that some more, might replace the petcock later. Closing in on 300 miles since I put it on the road.

Put some renthal ultra lows on and tried to clean her up the best I could in my parking garage.

Field oil change in Lexington. After the GS Relay, had no oil level reading on dipstick (???!!!). Level was fine 400 miles ago. I guess high speed highways do that.

Made the decision to just change the oil on the spot without filter. More piece of mind than anything else. Didn't want to be another seized engine statistic.

I like that splash of purple on the bike, looks good.

Took the bike out for a ride (Mostly since i needed to de-stress), and ticked over 45000miles on the counter.

I gave her a pat on the tank as it ticked over. A sort of "Well done" thing..

I also decided to do an oil change soon, having 5 different types of oil in it at the same time probably isnt the best idea.. :embarassed:

;) 5 oils? ... Well now ... They have you covered for all situations! ... Slow riding , fast riding, high altitude perhaps? , wet weather and hmmmm ..... Oh yeah! .. Long idling!  ;)

More depends on the various ages of the oil I think? ... Ie .. If you added some different stuff when the older oil 'felt' real thin and lacked slipperiness .... Then the lesser volume of new oil isn't going to replace the full viscosity of the old .... And that's assuming the same grade was used! ...

I have mixed together 3 different oil 'leftovers' to make enough for a fill before ... All 'new' or at least unused ... Same numbers on the bottles though ... Doesn't seem to have broken anything! ...

Just real old worn oil and a top up of new stuff ... It's ok just just get you to the next change if not too far away ... But don't assume you have extended the service interval  :thumb:

It leaks a little, and burns a little too, so i just kept topping it up with whatever i had at the time. :dunno_black:

Its all 10w40 semi synthetic, (some of its dedicated motorcycle oil, some is car oil, some is diesel car oil etc...) none of it has those dreaded friction modifiers in so i figured it would be ok.. Besides ive kept oil in it, thats the main point.

The 45000mile mark was the next oil change interval, i dont ride much recently, so ill do it within the month...... or was 42000 the oil change point? i should check that...

Cleaned the horn switch. Stopped working. Was filthy. Now works as intended.

I cheated, and didnt quite change the brake fluid in my gs.

I did a full change in my SV650. Had a little fresh stuff left over. Decided to use a baster to suck out just the nasty stuff in the main reservoir on top of the bars and replace that with clean stuff.
Better than not doing it at all?  :->

Installed the EBC HH front pads today. I abhor the way the front pads are on the caliper. Absolutely bonkers on the older GS500s.
