The chain guard alone is worth $1200.

A real steal for that bike. It would sell in less than a day here in Seattle. GS500's are getting rare and high priced.

Actually,  I am selling the chain guard,  and I am tossing in the motorcycle.

funny thing is when i first started looking for a bike i couldn't find ANY gs500's, now a bunch are popping up!

I agree, it's just that I have 2 buells and a GSX1100G that I am working on and I can't fit any more in the shop.

Wheel it into the spare room in the house until you have room in the shop!!

Anything's possible but all you have to do is run the Vin at your local police dept and you find out right away.

We need to lock Jacob4icu in a room. He's asking if he should do this deal.

I say run away as fast as you can. 

Things I found odd:

1. Motors do not have the VIN and motors do not have a title.
2. The motor is black and silver - that means it is parts from 2 motors.
3. Leave my non-running bike with you and give you $77 and you leave your bike with me until you get back?
4. Tabs expired: why expired? You have a bike you don't want to sell but need money for a trip you planned without sufficient money so you have to sell  your bike to pay for the trip and get a non-running bike and will do paperwork when you get back because you planned a trip and didn't have money for it?

The deal I first told him is my bike plus 700 for his bike. He was interested especially since I will be bringing it back to road worthy before trading it.

The cons:
- I found out later that the bike has salvage title, engine was bad and was replaced by what looks like a 90's bikes motor, he said it had 8k on the motor.
- I would have to start from scratch as far as modifications go, cause I am assuming thats what he is so interested in.

The good:
- Its an 01+ model and you know how much I love them
- I wont be giving him the Jardine exhaust
- Its pretty cheap.

I cant think of any other stuff right now.

What do you think of the deal? He wants to do this tomorrow if he doesnt sell it tonight.

He is selling it to pay for his trip down to Cali of which he is leaving tonight. It makes sense I guess, 600-700 dollars to pay for food and gas for a couple weeks.

The reason he wants to do the trade is cause he doesnt want to sell the bike, but for some money and another bike he figures it will be nice to have a running bike to ride when he gets back.

The bike has expired tabs, and for that reason he doesnt want to ride it and tells me to come see it at his house after he sees my bike at my house.

The kicker is, he is willing to leave his bike at my house, and my bike at my house, during his cali trip, all I have to do is give him the cash, then he will come back and take my fixed bike after his 2 and a half weeks and go along his happy way.

It does seem quite sketchy, the bike could be stolen and hes going to report me to the police or something, but thats the only thing I could think of.

By the way, he said the source of the motor was another gs500 parts bike he had, and the salvage title was not from a crash, but from the motor, and he bought the bike with the salvage title. I am sure I can run a check on the vin, is there a web site that I can use to do that for free?

What if the motor went out and insurance just called it a total loss? Our is that not something that can happen? Then the original owner would just have to buy it back and sell it as is with a salvage title.

As if the urgency alone doesn't cry scam... but so many things don't add up any way you look at it.  I can count a number of lies just from reading through that vs what the two pics of the bike says...

Jacob, stick close to adidas on this... and getting back on the road will come soon enough... just not worth the risk of getting burnt off something like that, and you would be far worse than what you have now if you took a bite of that.

Look at the ground around it.

* Looks like air box breather hose
* Looks like other bike parts

Kind of looks like it was just hacked together with all the stuff on the ground.

He just told be he's going to run away. However, before he does that he's going to ask for the VIN and propose meeting at a licensing office.
