I'm brand new to this forum!

I just bought my very first bike: a 1993 GS500! I'm so excited. I bought it from cheetahman, who did a lot of awesome work on it. :)

I'm 24, female, and I'm in Somerville, MA. I can't wait to get it registered this week!  :D

I am not interested in anything you have to say
Don't bother talking to me, I will not answer you

Glad to see you made it into the forum.  Welcome to you.  There are so many really knowledgable people on here.  Zak and I bought the bike not really knowing anything about it, and I was just dumb struck when I found this place.  The sticky's with info are great if a problem developes.  Check out the Wiki too.  Even though I had the Clymer, just about everything I learned about the bike I learned here and quickly too!  People here like to post pictures so don't forget to post some of your riding adventures.  The GS will carry you just aboput anywhere you have the courage to go so good luck, have fun, and keep us posted on the adventure.  Mike

23 year old bloke from Sydney. I bought my GS500 new last year with absolutely no regrets. What a wicked bike, so simple and so forgiving of my riding errors. Looks cool too!

Hey I was watching a documentary about the pelicans in the out back last night.  Beautiful country, I'd love to visit but since you "blokes" all drive on the wrong side of the road, I'm afraid someone would run me over in the first 10 minutes.

Yeah there's no place like australia, I wouldn't live anywhere else.
And most Aussie drivers are okay if you stay on the left side of the road! :P

New member from Pennsylvania. My first bike was a 1991 GS500E (green) but I have since moved up considerably.  My new wife wanted to get a bike for herself. So I just picked up a 1998 GS500E with a little over 20,000 miles on it. She has already named it "Tigger" which I found most appropriate.  Take a look:

I have been looking around this site.  I have found a lot of suggestions but still looking for actual how to posts (with pics).  If anyone can point me to info for the following items, I would appreciate it:

How to swap front springs/fork oil recommendations to make it stiffer
Tail light/turn signal swap
Where to find the chin spoiler
New chain/sprocket sizes
A downloadable manual in .pdf
Tires sizes that work
Crash sliders (that actually work) or crash bars
Handlebar risers

That is about it. I can't wait to get this thing fixed up for my wife but also so I can ride it and take a little trip down memory lane...

25 living in north florida (usa). I've been lurking around for about a week reading different posts decided to register last night. Seems to be a great community. From some of the posts i've read through it seems like you folks have a ton of patience for beginners so I was glad to see that.

I have had my motorcycle endorsement for about 2 weeks. 2 of my younger brothers both just bought a 2007 gs500. Both with about 11k miles. I will be the one doing most of the work on them though as it is needed. I will try to post pictures in a couple of days when the weather clears. Anyway thanks for all the future advice/help. Glad to be here.

welcome!

Hi guys, just found the site, looks great.

My name is Stephen and i come from West Yorkshire UK
I have just acquired a 1998 GS500e in bright orange, it has been sat in my friends garage for the last eight years under a blanket, i drained and refilled the fuel and oil, new plugs and a battery and she fired up no problem, sounds great too.
Took it for its MOT and it passed straight through.

Taking my bike test in the next week or two so i can start using it, cant wait seems like a great bike

nice looking bike!

Hello,
The name is Derek Plaisance and I live in Lafayette Louisiana. I have been riding motorcycles for 3 years now and I first owned a 2007 gs500f. I sold it for a 2009 Honda shadow aero but recently bought it back. So I fell in love with my gs again. I'm doing a conversion now to make her look like a street fighter and will post pictures as I get progress. I have an idea of reusing the fairing light from a post I saw on here. Well hope everything works out.

Hey everyone,  Yoav (yo-wuv, hows that for pronunciation.) here.  27 years old, just got my M1 and bought my first bike (2000 GS500e black).  Been riding it for a week, seems solid.  I'm in San Francisco, CA  though it looks like most of you are out on the east coast.  Liking the video tutorials I found for maintenance work.  can't wait to put miles on the bike!

Hey, I'm Dave from St. Paul, MN.  I just bought a 2006 with 3300mi.  I've only been riding for 2 weeks now, but have put around 800 miles on the bike so far, loving every bit!  The GS has been a great bike to learn on, and I've found it to be very forgiving when it comes to miss shifts or bad clutching.  The only downside I can see is that I'm in MN, and I'm running out of ride time!
