Lol thats funny. The ones we wore were the heavy cotton blend. Yes hot as fukk in FarNQ in the middle of the bush but could run into anything and come out unscathed.
I was based in Innisfail but spent time at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville for my weapons training where I also spent a couple nights in the military hospital trying not to die from a reaction to some drugs the Doctors gave me when I was bitten by a white tail spider (assumed this by DRs as I came out in blisters and have a permanent scar on my arm from the bite area)
Will never forget the soldier that I thank for saving me that first night. His name was Cpl Skerritt. God Bless that soldier. Was 20+ years ago now and still have the scar.. albiet its now faded but still visible :thumb:

Yes it did. Every year around the same time it used to flare up into a ugly welt that lasted for a few weeks and got VERY itchy. It stopped doing that after about 5 years and just became a rash and now is just a faded scar.
Never want to be bitten again :dunno_black:

Yeah .. They worry me more than a redback really ... Least with a reddie you can go have a shot, feel a bit crook for a few days and leave it behind.. The whitetails last under 10 seconds around my place once I see them!

Got a brief question about the katana 600 shock ... Ill thread it for more info if i need to .. but figured id just ask 'the brains trust'  ;) ..Been browsing around the web on adjusting the damper dial ...

Got the preload on 5 which seems to suit so far ... But .. Not on sharp bumps so much .. But on the softer wavy/bumpy road bits ... The rear end feels like .... When you standing up and barefoot .. And just raise yourself onto your toes a little ... Just a short flex upwards and back down ...

If you can get that idea ... Is that the normal feeling? ... I've only ridden on the shock for one day and its so much of an improvement! ... Just not sure about that little 'flex' ...

And to push it a little further ... Does it sound about right? ... Or should I dial it up or down? ... I should note that I didn't look yet to see what the setting is ... I know/think there is only 4 possible settings ('00 shock) ... I can move it around easy enough I guess... Just after initial thoughts eh!

Can't offer any help here sorry.

I got nothin' Janx  :dunno_black:

I forgot to mention that one of the guys on the run on Sunday is still getting his Kat back together, so he rides his Harley at the moment.

He gave me the keys for the run from Fernvale to Boonah (thankfully the least twisty section) so he could have a run on my 450.

Aside from the huge blister he got from my pipe  :icon_eek: he enjoyed it... and that was my first ever taste of a Harley.

So... I found the suspension quite harsh and the front almost felt loose to me, I was not too fussed on the lack of lean angle, and the brakes were very wooden and lacked feel, and over about 90 kph I was finding my feet were being blown off the pegs, so after about 20 minutes my hips were aching from having to hold my feet on the pegs.

However, that motor... ummm wow on the torque front, that was impressive! I now can understand why people like cruising on Harleys with that torque available. Had to do some overtaking and on the 450 it's back a gear or two to get it over 6K RPM and then you can go for it, but on the Harley it didn't matter what gear you were in, just twist the throttle and you're gone...

I still don't want one as that's not my thing, but at least now I sorta get it... I still want to lean in corners and stop with a bit more confidence but if I wanted a mile muncher for the highways, well a big V Twin but with less forward controls would be worth investigating.

The other thing I get now is why people love Buells... that torque in a little bike that handles... yeah that would be a riot  :thumb:

Couldn't help it last night and had a peek at Buell prices... $7500 was the cheapest I saw, think I'll continue waiting for my Kat!

Janx, your starting point on your shock will be found when you set the proper sag... then you can go from there, but suspension dialing/tuning begins with setting sag.

Here is an excellent read from the R6 forum... yeah its geared toward the R6 shock, but most the info is good for bikes all around.

I had a play round the bush in cams when I was a cadet all good fun. Even got to shoot the styer with live rounds and the minimi with blanks. 2 seperate occasions though. They gave us the crappy auscam that was single layer with straight pockets, I ended up inheriting and buying the good auscams with double layers over the knees and elbows and angled pockets. Best thing was I was at Samuel hill at shoalwater bay and 2 f111's 'buzzed' us right over the camp doing a terrain following run. The scary thing was even though I wasn't listening hard I didn't hear them coming till it was too late, my god they were good.
