If they don't see it as an honest mistake, then there is something else going on there... maybe they don't know you well enough, or think you are somebody different than you are, or are mad at you for a different issue...    But usually there is more to it when somebody doesn't see an honest mistake, and its likely not your fault... more likely to do with their perception of the mistake combined with perceptions of previous encounters/experiences with you or other similar situations...
